Hot Spot In Kashiwa Likely From Fukushima
[Translate] Soil testing results have found very high levels of Cesium in the hot spot recently found in Kashiwa. The high levels of Cesium do not totally account for the high readings found in the field. The Ministry of Science & Education states that it is from Fukushima. Ex-SKF points out that the Cesium counts don’t add up to the total radiation being found in the area. So there are likely other substances in the mix. Stronium and Plutonium have been found in other locations far from the plant. There was no indication if they intend to test the soil for other isotopes. MEXT Creates Interactive Radiation Map
[Translate] MEXT has created an interesting interactive radiation map. It allows you to look at various regions using different types of monitoring. It could be improved by adding the aerial testing of the western half of the country and possibly some of the on the ground testing results but is still useful as is. Okuma Radiation Levels 503.1 mSv Annual Exposure
[Translate] MEXT radiation testing found Okuma town, 3km from Fukushima Daiichi is still extremely high at 503.1 mSv annual accumulation. The current high emergency radiation maximum set by the government is 100 mSv annually. This is the old nuclear plant worker maximum in Japan from before the disaster and Okuma is 5 times that. Elevated Radiation Levels in Niigata and Akita
[Translate] The ongoing aerial radiation survey has shown radiation in Niigata and Akita prefectures. Experts are trying to determine if the mountainous areas in Niigata that showed higher radiation are due to fallout or if exposed granite could be causing the levels. Granite and some other naturally occurring substances in the region could be contributing to the readings. It may take sending in on the ground survey teams to determine for sure the situation in those areas. It is unknown if the elevated areas in Akita are due to possible exposed granite or if they are radiation hot spots. Government Admits Plutonium Found 45km From Fukushima Daiichi In June
[Translate] The Ministry of Education and Science has admitted they found plutonium up to 45km away from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant in June. No reason was given for why they waited until the end of September to make the admission. The ministry claimed the numbers were small, but plutonium is highly toxic and has a long half life. Citizen testing has already found neptunium, the predecessor product to plutonium up to 60 km away from the plant, so this news isn’t new. So far plutonium and neptunium have been found in the following cities: Futaba-machi Namie-machi Iitate-mura Date City Professor Shinya Nagasaki University Graduate School of Tokyo said it is not impossible for plutonium to travel that far if it is taken up into the weather. Officials Failed To Notice Iodine 131 Cloud Floating South Of Fukushima Daiichi
[Translate] Officials from the science ministry are now saying that another cloud of radiation flowed south of the plant. It has been well known of the fallout path that flowed north and west of the plant. The south fallout path was prior to June 14th based on testing results. This could help explain the unexpectedly high radiation readings citizens have been obtaining. Officials said the amounts of iodine 131 were rather high but didn’t give figures. There was also no explanation why it took them until mid-September to release this information. High Levels Of Contamination Found Outside Evacuation Zone
[Translate] MEXT has released more contamination level data that shows considerably high levels outside the 20km evacuation zone, mostly concentrated in a north west path. As data has been coming out recently the north west path has shown to have taken considerable fallout over the last six months. There were also soil samples taken, these showed levels outside the evacuation zone in 66 locations exceeded the evacuation threshold used in Chernobyl. Okuma is 30km from the plant and showed millions of becquerels on the soil sample tests. Namie and Iitate were showing high levels on the MEXT sampling information, both are outside the evacuation zone. Some of this area to the north and west had been evacuated, but there are still people in this northwest stretch that the government has not done anything … Read entire article »
