TEPCO released a document of radiation readings for an extensive list of locations in the reactor buildings, related buildings and some other facilities around the plant.
These maps include new floorplans of buildings that TEPCO has not shared with the public before. The attached waste processing building, service building that sits between the reactor and turbine building and also the turbine buildings are included. These provide more detail on the facility design and relation between buildings. Other buildings such as the bunker building and waste treatment building are included.
Some of the readings are already known. Many of the reactor building readings had already been released. The turbine buildings show some interesting hot spots that don’t give an immediate reason for their location and existence. There was also an unusual reading in one of the waste processing buildings. The over all picture for each unit does help give some hints to the damage for each unit as the higher radiation locations tend to show patterns of where containment failed.
All of the new radiation maps can be found here in our Flickr gallery.
Unit 1’s turbine building showed an area on the first floor near the wall that joins to the service building (between turbine and reactor buildings) as having a reading larger than 1 sV/h.
These unusual readings in the first floor of the unit 1 waste treatment building show a cluster of readings from 113-350 mSv/h. The reason for this is not immediately clear.
The first floor of the unit 2 reactor building shows an area of 3-4.4 sV/h on the containment wall in the north side of the building
Unit 2’s turbine building has a single 1 sV/h reading in the turbine building basement. This is the only reading given for that floor of the turbine building.
The second floor of the unit 1 reactor building has a 1 sV/h reading near the containment wall on the north side of the reactor.
