No nukes protests in Taiwan started yesterday on Earth Day with some public gatherings in Taipei.
By evening protesters had gathered in front of the legislature building in Taipei. Police put up a series of barricades. Protesters began cutting the metal barricades apart with portable power tools.
Protesters dumped something on the door step of the KMT political party headquarters during the same evening. The running theme has been that you can’t burn nuclear waste, it never goes away. The KMT party has been the main supporter of nuclear power in Taiwan. We explain here why nuclear power in Taiwan is so dangerous. The focus of much of the current effort in Taiwan is to prevent the problem plagued number 4 nuclear plant from going into operation.
By morning a few protesters were left occupying the area in front of the legislature.
Hundreds gathered in front of KMT headquarters today in another large protest.
From what we were able to find in various reports by no nukes groups in Taiwan on Facebook there are plans for various protest actions for the rest of the week.
