Mainichi Catches Fukushima Health Survey In A Lie

Mainichi Shimbun did a freedom of information request upon the Fukushima Health Survey after news of secret meetings by the Health Survey staff were found out. The Fukushima Prefecture government told Mainichi in September that there were no minutes of these meetings. Mainichi Shimbun sent in a freedom of information request and were then given the minutes of the meetings that the prefecture government said didn’t exist.

The explanation by the Fukushima government for lying to a major newspaper? The minutes are not minutes, instead they are “memos”. The “memos” showed that some of these secret meetings were longer than the official meetings. The content of these meetings included planning and strategy about how they were going to frame certain aspects of the issues at hand and making some decisions ahead of the official meetings where the issues were to be discussed and decisions made.
