Animal Rescue Volunteers Arrested By Fukushima Govt In Evac Zone
[Translate] Hachiko Coalition is reporting that Leo and Hiroshi Hoshi, both animal rescue volunteers who have been feeding and rescuing the pets left behind in the Fukushima evacuation zone have been arrested by Futaba police. The report from Hachiko Coalition: “BREAKING NEWS: Two of the Hoshi Family Have Been Arrested as of Yesterday and detained by the Futaba Fukushima Police. Of course it is none other than animal activists Hoshi Hiroshi and Leo Hoshi. They cannot be contacted and are being charged with crimes. The Hoshi Hiroshi Family has been rescuing animals each weekend inside the zone and surroundings for almost 2 years as a private volunteer rescue group. Futaba May Be Uninhabitable For Over 60 Years In Certain Locations
[Translate] The mayor of Futaba has told residents they may need to stay away for “a generation” citing the half life of cesium 137 at 30 years. He also mentioned return would not be possible until levels were at “1 millisievert” possibly referring to the 1mSv/year guidelines of ICRP. Parts of Futaba are at 50mSv/year. If you start with 50 msv/yr you need between 5-6 half lives (32-64) to get down to 1 msv/year. Higher level areas in Futaba could take 64 years or more to become safe if you include the higher readings and hot spots around town. LDP Likely Cabinet Member; “Government Should Tell People 20 Millisieverts Per Year Exposure Is Safe”

Now the incoming LDP government politicians are suggesting that 20 mSv/year be considered a safe level all around. Why? So life can get back to normal in Fukushima. The ICRP guideline documents 1mSv/year as the maximum people should be subjected to. Many researchers and rights groups think the ICRP guideline may be too relaxed at 1mSv/year. Data Shows Residents Near Daiichi More Exposed Than Previously Thought
[Translate] Some recently released data that was retrieved from radiation monitors memory cards showed high levels of radiation before the reactor explosions in Fukushima. This series of events shows that a large number of people were exposed and still in the vicinity of the plant during the venting and explosions. Futaba northwest of the plant saw a reading of 1,590 microsieverts per hour (1.59 mSv/h) by 3pm on March 12. This is before unit 1 exploded at The earlier readings are even more concerning. 0.18 microsievert/hour at 8:25AM on March 12, 2011 in Tomioka south of the plant. At 8:52AM on March 12, 2011, they measured 14 microsieverts/hour in Namie northwest of the plant. These are before the first venting. [Translate] A year and a half since the 3-11 disasters many still live in temporary housing without compensation wondering where they will go. Even less known is a group of 200 elderly evacuees still living in a former school. No hot food, no privacy and what services they do have are improvised at the school building. Most sleep with cardboard partitions for privacy or together in old classrooms dorm style. This group of evacuees all from Futaba have been mentioned before.
