An In Depth Look At Japan’s Rokkasho Nuclear Facility

[Translate] We were tipped off by a reader about the deep problems at the Rokkasho nuclear facility in Japan. The facility frequently comes up in the news and we have mentioned individual facilities in our work in the past. This time we looked deeper into the facility, the ongoing problems there and the world wide damage this plant is already causing even before it begins full operation. What we found was shocking.  Read the full report here: http://www.simplyinfo.org/?page_id=9399 This article would not be possible without the extensive efforts of the SimplyInfo research team Join the conversation at chat.simplyinfo.org All content is copyright SimplyInfo.org. Stronium & Plutonium Found In Government Survey

[Translate] Stronium 90 and Plutonium 238 & 239 have been found around the region of the Fukushima Daiichi accident. Some of the stronium 90  findings were over 80km from the plant and  5,700 becquerels per square meter were found in Futuba. Officials claimed the plutonium found was likely from previous nuclear bomb tests but the stronium 90 levels were much higher than before the accident. The red marks are Stronium 90, the black marks Plutonium, on the map to the left. Government Admits Plutonium Found 45km From Fukushima Daiichi In June

[Translate] The Ministry of Education and Science has admitted they found plutonium up to 45km away from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant in June. No reason was given for why they waited until the end of September to make the admission. The ministry claimed the numbers were small, but plutonium is highly toxic and has a long half life. Citizen testing has already found neptunium, the predecessor product to plutonium up to 60 km away from the plant, so this news isn’t new. So far plutonium and neptunium have been found in the following cities: Futaba-machi Namie-machi Iitate-mura Date City Professor Shinya Nagasaki University Graduate School of Tokyo said it is not impossible for plutonium to travel that far if it is taken up into the weather. Scottish Nuclear Plant Sea Contamination Impossible To Completely Decontaminate

[Translate] The Dounreay nuclear plant on the coast of northern Scotland leaked radiation into the sea and coastline for twenty years. Fuel fragments were disbursed up to 2 km from the plant over those years. “The most radioactive of the particles are regarded by experts as potentially lethal if ingested. Similar in size to grains of sand, they contain caesium-137, which has a half-life of 30 years, but they can also incorporate traces of plutonium-239, which has a half-life of over 24,000 years – meaning that is the time period for half of the material to break down”. The Scottish EPA has been working for years to try to bring the area back to pristine condition but has now announced that it would be impossible to do.  This revelation that decontamination can’t fully … Read entire article »

Cold War Plutonium Human Experiments

[Translate] As WWII was nearing an end and the cold war began US government officials and cooperative medical doctors colluded to do dangerous tests on citizens without their knowledge or consent. This sounds like something out of the X-files. Journalist Eileen Welsome stumbled upon this story as she was looking through old records and found files on radioactive animal dumps at Kirkland Air Force Base. A footnote in one of the documents gave a hint that it wasn’t just animals the US government was doing tests on. Years of sleuth work uncovered a widespread campaign to do dangerous human testing without patient knowledge. After her expose in the Albuquerque Tribune and her more detailed book “The Plutonium Files: America’s Secret Medical Experiments in the Cold War.” came out the Clinton administration opened an investigation. The … Read entire article »

Fukushima Daiichi Intended To Increase MOX Use In Unit 3

[Translate] Editors note: Documentation TEPCO #1 Documentation TEPCO #2 Preliminary Analysis of Tepco Documentation 3-2 “Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station Unit 3 According to the results confirm the soundness of the new MOX fuel in the long-term storage” July 31, 2010 Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency Introduction: Analysis of this document began under the premise that MOX fuel could in no possible terms be viable and intact after spending a period of 10-11 years in the spent fuel pool.  Documents show that 32 Mixed Oxide Fuel Assemblies were manufactured and sent to Fukushima-I in 1999.  These fuel assemblies were then stored in the Spent Fuel Pool of Reactor 3 pending local government approval.  This approval did not come until late summer of 2010, at which point arrangements were made and the fuel … Read entire article »

Hanford to Fukushima: Part 4

[Translate] This is part 4 of a 4 part series about the Hanford nuclear site in Washington State.  We hope the series will help those in Japan achieve a better understanding of nuclear releases and be able to benefit from the experiences of the victims of Hanford as they deal with their own current circumstances related to the Fukushima Daiichi disaster. Part 4: Hanford Downwiders and exposure People were exposed to radiation a variety of ways around Hanford. During WWII soldiers slept in tents a few miles from the plutonium plants. Beyond the well known air and water exposures, vegetation in the region was contaminated. Fruits and vegetables were contaminated, cows grazing converted the contamination into their milk. Sheep and cows absorbed certain radioactive isotopes into their meat and bones.  This article would not be possible … Read entire article »

Part 3: Hanford cover ups and secrecy At the start of Hanford it was part of the top secret WWII Manhattan Project. The military at Hanford adopted a security system known as compartmentalization. Workers were told only what they needed to know to do their job and purposely did not know anything about other parts of the plant or the work going on. When the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima workers … Read entire article »

Part 1: Hanford’s History The Hanford nuclear site was established in 1943 as part of the Manhattan Project tasked with quickly creating a viable nuclear bomb during WWII. Hanford is located in south central Washington state in the Pacific Northwest. The site was selected for the unique terrain and sparse population that suited it for the top secret project.  This article would not be possible without the extensive efforts of the SimplyInfo … Read entire article »

Plutonium Risks To Health

[Translate] Googleによる日本語訳は、記事の一番下に翻訳。 Plutonium is a radioactive isotope that is produced inside a nuclear reactor. Plutonium that was released into the environment during the nuclear accidents at Fukushima Daiichi can be extremely dangerous. Plutonium-239 is produced from the decay of Uranium-239 and has at least 15 different isotopes (most common Pu-238, 240, 241, 242) all of which are radioactive and have varying half lifes (Pu-239 is highest at over 24000 years). All of these plutonium isotopes can be dangerous if they enter the body.
