Only 9.6% In Japan Want Continuation Of Nuclear Power
[Translate] A recent Jiji News poll asked about public sentiment on nuclear power. Only 9.6% want a continuation of nuclear power. 86.4% want a reduction of nuclear power or a zero nuclear energy policy. 54% want a reduction and 32.4% wanted zero nuclear. For those who wanted zero nuclear power, who they would vote for was rather diluted with no party holding a considerable lead. 80% Of Japan Does Not Trust Govt. On Nuclear Safety
[Translate] An Asahi poll over the weekend showed that 80% do not trust the government on nuclear safety and 57% oppose reactor restarts in Japan. Japanese politicians have been pushing hard for reactor restarts in recent weeks. This may be a very hard sell with the public so clearly distrustful and opposed. Prime minister Noda has vowed to push for reactor restarts but lack of local support needed for restarts may still stop such a plan. The 80% lack of faith in government safety is significant to see such a public consensus on anything. Fukushima has quite obviously woke up people in Japan. 70% In Japan Want Nuclear End Or Reduction, 49% Very Afraid Of Another Accident
[Translate] A new NHK poll shows 70% of those polled want to abolish or reduce nuclear power. 49% were very afraid of another nuclear accident. 24% wanted a complete shutdown but people were close to evenly split in thinking future nuclear power might be safe or not.
