The US CDC has re-confirmed that airborne transmission of covid plays a role in the spread of the virus. This means that it can hang in the air.
Trump has spent the weekend in the hospital on an increasing array of medications used for severe cases of covid. The treatment given vs. the overly hopeful claims of his doctor has lead many medical professionals to question the notion that his case is not serious. On Sunday he took a brief limo trip around the block outside of Walter Reed hospital so he could wave at supporters on the street. This impulsive spur of the moment trip was decried by doctors and members of the secret service as a pointless activity that put the agents tasked with protecting the president at high risk of contracting covid.
By Monday afternoon Trump has claimed he would leave the hospital and return to the White House. Doctors can not force him to stay at Walter Reed against his will but going back to the White House would again put everyone who has to be there at high risk of contracting covid. This was also decried by outside doctors as being a risky move for someone who could abruptly have their health take a turn as is common in some covid cases. There were also concerns that the drug dexamethasone was prompting some of Trump’s more agitated behavior Sunday and Monday, leading to concerns that he is still in charge of presidential duties. Some of this may be fueled by what Trump’s niece described as a family pathology where illness was considered an “unforgivable weakness“. In a late Monday press conference Trump’s doctor stated his clinical status “supports his return home” but he would have 24-7 medical care at the White House. He did not make any note about actual improvement and described it as “not out of the woods yet”.
As more details came out it appears that Trump knew he had tested positive before he attended a campaign fundraiser at his golf club in New Jersey.
Three members of the White House press secretary’s office have now tested positive including the press secretary. The press secretary was seen multiple times over the weekend talking to the press without a mask as has been a habit for many in Trump’s inner circle.
Former presidential advisor Kellyanne Conway who contracted covid from the White House SCOTUS nomination event has now infected her teenage daughter.
Saturday afternoon former NJ governor Chris Christie checked himself into a hospital after experiencing “mild symptoms” of covid.
So far Democratic candidate Joe Biden has continued to test negative. The window of potentially developing covid remains.
Two more Tennessee Titans football players have tested positive for a total of 18, leading to questions about their precaution protocols.
