  • this morning i saw an article saying kan wants to nationalize nuke power. has anyone seen it, too ?
    by Edano 7/12/2011 11:58:22 PM

  • @lillymunster : this is expensive. i think the question is who has to pay for it.
    by Edano 7/12/2011 11:59:11 PM

  • @Edano I saw one, said he is considering it. I think he can save his skin if he does an abrupt anti-nuclear stance and gets the right people around him.

  • @Edano I think national health pays for some.

  • @lillymunster : i don't think you can go to a hospital and say i want a body scan, national health pays. then everyone wants one.
    by Edano 7/13/2011 12:01:39 AM

  • nationalizing nukes is an extreme good idea, not only for japan.
    by Edano 7/13/2011 12:02:27 AM

  • i found it:

Kan to explore possibility of nationalizing nuclear power

    TOKYO, July 12, Kyodo

Prime Minister Naoto Kan said Tuesday he will explore the possibility of nationalizing Japan's nuclear power operations in the wake of the crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi plant.

When asked about Japan's future nuclear policy, Kan told a parliamentary session that he has doubts regarding the private sector's ability to deal with eventualities, given the huge impact of possible accidents.

Bearing in mind that nine private companies are currently operating nuclear facilities in Japan, Kan said, ''It is not necessarily the same in other countries and we need to have discussions,'' while reviewing the country's current energy policy. english.kyodonews.jp

  • Radiation Coverups And Dangers Exposed Worldwide. The nuclear industry and nuclear regulators worldwide, as well as specifically in the United States, have continually covered up disasters and radiation releases as if they never happened or posed no danger to the public.

To begin to understand the corruption of the nuclear power industry and the danger we are in because of it, you must first realize that they actually fund their regulators, The NRC in the United States and the IAEA for the world. he NRC has long served as little more than a lap dog to the nuclear industry, unwilling to crack down on unsafe reactors. “The agency is a wholly owned subsidiary of the nuclear power industry,” says Victor Gilinsky, who served on the commission during the Three Mile Island meltdown in 1979.

Even President Obama denounced the NRC during the 2008 campaign, calling it a “moribund agency that needs to be revamped and has become captive of the industries that it regulates.”

In the years ahead, nuclear experts warn, the consequences of the agency’s inaction could be dire. “The NRC has consistently put industry profits above public safety,” says Arnie Gundersen, a former nuclear executive turned whistle-blower. “Consequently, we have a dozen Fukushimas waiting to happen in America.” theintelhub.com

  • @Lilly It's only a matter of time before a similar disaster happens in another country. Japan's handling of food contamination is absolutely terrifying and I must admit I fear the same treatment everywhere else. Hopefully this small spotlight will help, but we're definitely going to have to consider how we will respond under the same conditions. The US gov will do the same as Japan to protect it's financial interests!

  • @LM I think they already are. The EPA-FDA-USDA were really quick to declare Fukushima a non-event and that no food contamination would happen because they made a model that said so so everything is fine now get back to work american idol is on in 5 minutes..... :-)
We should be testing pacific seafood and a number of other things to make sure they are safe rather than assuming they are.

  • @LM heard it loud and clear. Hey, a question for the sci-tech folks. I know it is very difficult to detect radiation in food with a counter, but what would be the best way to do this? I have two very sensitive geiger counters, one for gamma, and the other that I can set for alpha and with subsettings for specific alpha emitters. Any advice?
