  • @Edano funny how your namesake has turned out to be a hero in the story.
    by bo 7/13/2011 5:09:50 AM

  • @bo kan & edano are fighting.
    by Edano 7/13/2011 5:11:49 AM

  • Doh! @Edano, I typed too soon, I meant Kan. Guess I need more coffee.
    by bo 7/13/2011 5:14:21 AM

  • @bo : i always liked edano. in the first weeks, he was nearly round the clock on tv, always with the same, serious face, always telling bad news. wow, what a job !
    by Edano 7/13/2011 5:16:43 AM

  • @Edano agreed. He was the face of the crisis for the first weeks. In fact I can still see his face when I look at this screen.
    by bo 7/13/2011 5:20:11 AM

  • @bo : what can we expect if kan retires ? are there other anti nukes behind him ?
    by Edano 7/13/2011 5:21:56 AM

  • @Edano I'll ask my buddy who is an expert on Japanese politics. He has mentioned a few names, but I don't know anything about them.
    by bo 7/13/2011 5:23:43 AM

  • @bo : i think this is quite complicated to forsee. the japanese don't show their real faces, there is a lot of tactics.
    by Edano 7/13/2011 5:26:04 AM

  • @Edano also, the PM rarely has any actual power. That can be seen by the fact that they never serve a full year. The real power is always held by party players behind the scenes. Of course the Democratic Party is new, and so less stabilized in terms of power distribution than the LDP. But whoever they choose, it may not make too much of a difference. That is probably one reason that Kan is trying to get things done before he is thrown overboard. If he can create a ground swell for a public referendum then he will have done well in pulling the power away from the brokers.
    by bo 7/13/2011 5:30:01 AM

  • nationalizing nukes is a really heavy attack against the companies.
    by Edano 7/13/2011 5:37:24 AM

  • And even if it is only to provoke the discussion, to move the decisions away from the status quo protectors would be good.
    by bo 7/13/2011 5:38:44 AM

  • i agree, he wants to encourage the population to think in new dimensions, to break up the opinion monopol.
    by Edano 7/13/2011 5:43:56 AM

  • Well it seriously feels to me like public awareness here is becoming an avalanche. With each new shock of impact, like the beef thing this week, more and more common citizens are becoming concerned and press coverage is increasing. This can only get bigger. It's going to be an interesting ride, especially when the industry starts its full tilt PR efforts before long.
    by bo 7/13/2011 5:46:09 AM

  • Goodnight .....

by Ralph Unger 7/13/2011 9:32:16 AM

  • @Ralph Unger I am a mod. Just about to head home, so wanted to check that someone was watching while I am gone. But thanks for your kind sentiment!

by Ralph Unger 7/13/2011 9:34:23 AM

by Ralph Unger 7/13/2011 9:35:11 AM

  • Done. And thanks for that, everyone will be grateful to have an easily accessible link again. See you in a bit. Cheers!
    by bo 7/13/2011 9:35:27 AM

  • G'night Bo.
by Ralph Unger 7/13/2011 9:35:44 AM

  • Too little too late? I disagree, the studies that they are starting at Fukushima will tell us what radiation exposure really does to a population over time. It might seem lame to those exposed, but the greater good could be served.
by Ralph Unger 7/13/2011 9:46:23 AM

  • The "Hot Particles" That Gunderson is mentioning , the effects can be traced. The effects will be seen even in the US. But it will take time to see the results.
by Ralph Unger 7/13/2011 9:48:28 AM

  • Even if the results increase my cancer risk by 1 in a million, why should I have to accept that risk when I get no benefits from it?
by Ralph Unger 7/13/2011 9:50:07 AM

  • Shared liability and not shared profits.
by Ralph Unger 7/13/2011 9:51:01 AM

  • @ralph exactly !
    by elainekirk 7/13/2011 9:51:15 AM

  • brb coffee
    by elainekirk 7/13/2011 9:53:06 AM

  • Where have people gotten free electric from these plants? But I might lose my house?
by Ralph Unger 7/13/2011 9:53:13 AM

  • I thought SCRAM meant that they just turned it off and it was OK. Now I learn that it takes ten years to cool off the fuel and make it safe?n Well 5 years in many cases , but still it is not an instant process.
by Ralph Unger 7/13/2011 9:55:42 AM

  • Would you drive a car that if it ran out of gas it would blow you up?
by Ralph Unger 7/13/2011 9:56:40 AM

  • Put your kids in that car?
by Ralph Unger 7/13/2011 9:57:37 AM

  • @Ralph Unger tepco said yesterday it will be 2021 before they can start removing reactor fuel
    by elainekirk 7/13/2011 9:59:11 AM

  • They lie. Two nice links though. www.fairewinds.com and also vimeo.com
by Ralph Unger 7/13/2011 10:00:50 AM

  • The second is a town hall kinda thing.
by Ralph Unger 7/13/2011 10:01:23 AM

  • @Ralph Unger just reading some worker tweets
    by elainekirk 7/13/2011 10:02:23 AM

  • the governor of tokyo is causing waves translate.google.com
    by elainekirk 7/13/2011 10:05:40 AM

  • Yes as to dry casket storage .That would be the timeline.
by Ralph Unger 7/13/2011 10:06:13 AM

  • Perhaps I am a fool. I do not think so. I was told that with a SCRAM the reactor would be safe. I had no idea that it took several months to make the fuel rods safe without outside cooling powered by pumps.
by Ralph Unger 7/13/2011 10:10:57 AM

  • Hit the red button and all would be safe. Now I know that is BS. That concerns me very much.
by Ralph Unger 7/13/2011 10:12:38 AM

  • @Ralph Unger yes the industry has been very clever with the PR
    by elainekirk 7/13/2011 10:14:43 AM

  • Check out the link vimeo.com
by Ralph Unger 7/13/2011 10:17:43 AM

    by elainekirk 7/13/2011 10:24:47 AM

  • A;ways have volume turned off, I do.
