@Edano funny how your namesake has turned out to be a hero in the story.
by bo 7/13/2011 5:09:50 AM

@bo kan & edano are fighting.
by Edano 7/13/2011 5:11:49 AM

Doh! @Edano, I typed too soon, I meant Kan. Guess I need more coffee.
by bo 7/13/2011 5:14:21 AM

@bo : i always liked edano. in the first weeks, he was nearly round the clock on tv, always with the same, serious face, always telling bad news. wow, what a job !
by Edano 7/13/2011 5:16:43 AM

@Edano agreed. He was the face of the crisis for the first weeks. In fact I can still see his face when I look at this screen.
by bo 7/13/2011 5:20:11 AM

@bo : what can we expect if kan retires ? are there other anti nukes behind him ?
by Edano 7/13/2011 5:21:56 AM

@Edano I'll ask my buddy who is an expert on Japanese politics. He has mentioned a few names, but I don't know anything about them.
by bo 7/13/2011 5:23:43 AM

@bo : i think this is quite complicated to forsee. the japanese don't show their real faces, there is a lot of tactics.
by Edano 7/13/2011 5:26:04 AM

@Edano also, the PM rarely has any actual power. That can be seen by the fact that they never serve a full year. The real power is always held by party players behind the scenes. Of course the Democratic Party is new, and so less stabilized in terms of power distribution than the LDP. But whoever they choose, it may not make too much of a difference. That is probably one reason that Kan is trying to get things done before he is thrown overboard. If he can create a ground swell for a public referendum then he will have done well in pulling the power away from the brokers.
by bo 7/13/2011 5:30:01 AM

nationalizing nukes is a really heavy attack against the companies.
by Edano 7/13/2011 5:37:24 AM

And even if it is only to provoke the discussion, to move the decisions away from the status quo protectors would be good.
by bo 7/13/2011 5:38:44 AM

i agree, he wants to encourage the population to think in new dimensions, to break up the opinion monopol.
by Edano 7/13/2011 5:43:56 AM

Well it seriously feels to me like public awareness here is becoming an avalanche. With each new shock of impact, like the beef thing this week, more and more common citizens are becoming concerned and press coverage is increasing. This can only get bigger. It's going to be an interesting ride, especially when the industry starts its full tilt PR efforts before long.

by bo 7/13/2011 9:33:02 AM

That said, I am headed home all. Apologies for any comments that get hung up in mod until I return in about an hour!
