  • @elainekirk were these from way back or did they trot them out again?
    by lillymunster 9/13/2011 11:29:00 PM

  • @elainekirk grabbed the nirs link for my tomorrow todo list.
    by lillymunster 9/13/2011 11:29:55 PM

  • @lillymunster they from way back Lilly that link in it they have atmospheric releases and they have nsc estimates as well as nisa and the nsc are much higher!

  • OPPD says Ft. Calhoun repairs at $57 million. Having to refinance debts to have enough money to fix the plant. www.omaha.com

They don't have money, they are running the worst nuke plant in the us (ok worst of 2) and they have serious staff problems, like the graffitti on the walls.
    by lillymunster 9/13/2011 11:38:02 PM

  • @elainekirk Sooo. I should do a trip down TEPCO pics memory lane when I have time? :-)
    by lillymunster 9/13/2011 11:38:37 PM

  • @lillymunster yes I think it well worthwhile I was only there because my search for manuals sent me ?? dunno why because they only have from 12th and that was 11th (would love to find it very curious)
    by elainekirk 9/13/2011 11:44:09 PM

  • @elainekirk it is probably a good time to revisit many of those images with what we know now about event times and melt downs.
    by lillymunster 9/13/2011 11:45:10 PM

  • @lillymunster oh yes, do you know what that is undr #3's roof it is bugging me
    by elainekirk 9/13/2011 11:50:36 PM

  • @elainekirk not sure. It doesn't follow any of the stationary structures or the collapsed roof

  • 4 days later and 'during evacuation' plus as we know it didnt filter through as far as actually giving people the iodine , wording it like that means that it would have been an honest mistake when it was ignored by those who werent or already had evac'ed people
    by elainekirk 9/13/2011 11:59:56 PM

  • @elainekirk true, also why was there not some sort of blanket issuance and a health ministry involved
    by lillymunster 9/14/2011 12:01:09 AM

  • it should have gone out on the 12th as soon as they gave permission to vent

  • @lillymunster I would doubt that if they were we wouldnt be told
    by elainekirk 9/14/2011 12:21:28 AM

  • @elainekirk IIRC the food testing seemed to focus on cesium. I should go back and look at some

    by elainekirk 9/14/2011 12:33:01 AM

  • above 50msv .........no dose above 50 I can't fathom it
    by elainekirk 9/14/2011 12:33:59 AM

  • @elainekirk we need to ask Edano. That sounds really high. NISA has the legal authority to compel TEPCO to hand over the manuals without editing or omission. That was the big deal yesterday. The committee asked NISA to pull authority on TEPCO.
    by lillymunster 9/14/2011 12:41:14 AM

  • @lillymunster @elainekirk yes it is very high, but it is below the 100 mSv yamashit threshold.
    by Edano 9/14/2011 12:42:04 AM

  • you can make 10,000 dental x-rays till you receive 50 mSv. this is incredibly high.
    by Edano 9/14/2011 12:44:42 AM

  • imagine, no mother in the world would allow 10,000 x-rays on her child.
    by Edano 9/14/2011 12:46:02 AM

  • @Edano I can't believe a nation could proclaim that 'all the children whose thyroid dose was measured had no more than 50msv' I have watched those male humanoids bowing for months and thought them empty gestures they should be led to the chopping block the lot of them
    by elainekirk 9/14/2011 12:48:35 AM

  • if they had that much in their thyroid imagine what a WBC would measure
    by elainekirk 9/14/2011 12:50:49 AM

  • @elainekirk they will now make nice studies with the children over the next 30-50 years and write down how much develop cancer and how much will die. and then finally we will know that it is important to evacuate children immediately and to give them jodine in time in the next meltdown that will happen.
    by Edano 9/14/2011 12:54:48 AM

  • i wonder why they didn't make three groups of children. 1 evacuates, 2 of them stay, of which 1 gets jodine, the other not. then they could have made a perfect study. /cinism/
    by Edano 9/14/2011 12:57:03 AM

  • @Edano Sssssh! Careful, someone will hear that and think it is a good idea.
    by lillymunster 9/14/2011 12:58:35 AM

  • ah, i forgot they need another control group with placebos, so they have a double blind study.
    by Edano 9/14/2011 12:59:27 AM

  • and finally a smiling group.
    by Edano 9/14/2011 1:00:44 AM

  • ah yes the smiling group, in a few yrs children will be shown photo's of what happens to people who don't smile

    by Edano 9/14/2011 1:06:02 AM

  • In the study on high burnup fuel safety, it was clarified that hydrogen absorption by the clad makes fuel failure possible under accident conditions (Topic 5-2). In addition, regarding fuel failure during reflooding by Emergency Core Cooling System, we have revealed that cladding gets brittle when it is slowly cooled to relatively low temperature before quench (Topic 5-3).
webcache.googleusercontent.com the full clad failure details are 2 pages further on in the doc here jolisfukyu.tokai-sc.jaea.go.jp
    by elainekirk 9/14/2011 1:20:32 AM

  • @elainekirk hmm does high burnup mean mox? Slowly cooled and then quenched. Sounds interesting.
    by lillymunster 9/14/2011 1:29:42 AM

  • Reading this Asahi story about the size of the contamination area. They only include land on these measures. I wonder what it would look like if they took the significant sea contaminations into account

  • Hello again. Not sure what this means. The translation is a little off maybe.
After the accident, Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, IAEA = International Atomic Energy Agency has adopted an action plan and seek acceptance of the investigation team to review the safety of nuclear power plants.
    by Cryptococcus 9/14/2011 2:06:45 AM

  • ah sorry...try again: After the accident, Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, IAEA = International Atomic Energy Agency has adopted an action plan and seek acceptance of the investigation team to review the safety of nuclear power plants.

The IAEA Board on June 13, unanimously adopted a draft action plan established for 12 items, such as nuclear safety assessment and risk management.

Learning from accidents in Fukushima, we urge countries such as strengthening of compensation in case of accident or emergency response teams to prepare for the establishment of a nuclear accident abroad.

In addition, Member States will retain a nuclear power, at least once in three years, the mission of the IAEA "voluntarily" accepted, and it was incorporated to examine the safety of nuclear power plants.

The action plan is expected to be officially approved by the IAEA General Conference from 19.

  • October 18, 2011 "TEPCO -- The Dark Empire": A Talk by Jake Adelstein. The Fukushima nuclear accident and its aftermath have not only exposed Japan to a public health and environmental disaster that remains uncontained in scope and duration, they have also exposed major problems in the management and governance of one of Japan's most secretive industries and companies. On Tuesday October 18th, investigative journalist Jake Adelstein, author of the best-selling book “Tokyo Vice: An American Reporter on the Police Beat in Japan,” will discuss his latest findings regarding TEPCO's history of corporate malfeasance and cover-ups and why the media and government have often looked the other way. Building on the work of whistle-blower Kei Sugaoka and author Katsunobu Onda, from whose prescient 2007 book Adelstein borrows the title of this talk, Jake will discuss topics such as: --The meltdown and possible meltdowns to come: Did the earthquake alone trigger one of the meltdowns? A look at the remaining Mark 1 type reactors.
--The Lie that the meltdown was “Unforeseeable” and why that lie is necessary.
--What Lies Ahead: The Prosecutor's Office investigation into TEPCO for professional negligence resulting in death, and a look at legal precedents. www.harvardclubofjapan.org
