  • Lots of the ex Reuters people are here on this Facebook group now, and we have our Facebook photos and IDs which make it very easy to see who is who. Also it's permanent whereas I don't know what happens with this Scribble blog here after a month when they will want the person running it to pay a monthly fee. On the Facebook page we're also sharing videos that you can comment on and watch on the page, plus we have conversations on each of the threads. It's really good, and really friendly! www.facebook.com

  • @Dean very useful conversion site. many thanks!
by marie rich 3/26/2011 3:47:50 PM

  • And it saturates. as water boils out and leaves salt, the boiling point will rise as the salt level increases. I doubt the change affects much, but the concentration finally reaches super-saturation and it starts crystallizing out.
    by radioguy 3/26/2011 3:48:43 PM

  • @Indreba Some people on the internet don't like Facebook . @all, just in case, my email is futureisnow @ walla.com (to not be so anonymous ;-) )
    by futureisnow 3/26/2011 3:51:13 PM

  • Tried to post this on the Reuters blog some days ago, notice the noise on the picture when the camera gets close to the reactors, looks like intense radiation hitting the camera chip (CCD) : Detailed close-up aerial video of wrecked reactors at Fukushima www.youtube.com Please comment
    by WolfDK 3/26/2011 3:51:47 PM

  • @radioguy Precipitation of salts should be avoided. That's why seawater was a desperate move.
by Jim Carver 3/26/2011 3:51:48 PM

  • Thanks for the facebook link - I joined BUT this is I think more user friendly.
    by stef 3/26/2011 3:52:12 PM

  • @Jim Carver true, when they done it, they sign the death of the reactor
    by futureisnow 3/26/2011 3:52:39 PM

  • @futureisnow so is your IP dynamic or like mine semi static -switched every few weeks
by George Gibb 3/26/2011 3:52:53 PM

  • @WolfDK Noticed that also. I think it may be likely.
by Jim Carver 3/26/2011 3:53:37 PM

  • @george dynamic. each connection a new one. I can deconnect now, for test purpose if it help
    by futureisnow 3/26/2011 3:54:04 PM

  • @Janis, we live in Virginia and I am not worried for us to date. Our water is purified in a Bosch fridge, and I checked out the specs of the cartridges. Since they are quite expensive, I thought they must be good for something.
by Peter Melzer 3/26/2011 3:55:16 PM

  • @WolfDK original footage on MOD's channel with less noise... : www.youtube.com
    by pg 3/26/2011 3:55:19 PM

  • @WolfDK: Saw that, too. Can anybody say what radiation is needed that you see it that way, I mean how high has it to be or isn't that possible to say?
    by Mina 3/26/2011 3:55:42 PM

  • @futureisnow I'll put a ticket in and see how they actually use chat name/IP address
by George Gibb 3/26/2011 3:55:43 PM

  • @WolfDK I wonder radiation level it takes to do that. With that number and some distance measurements, we could even get a very rough reading by looking at the effect on the video?
    by radioguy 3/26/2011 3:55:53 PM

  • Thank you, I just found this. I just don't understand this - how can the estimates from zmag based on CTBTO data be that early emissions (first 4 days) of Cs was about 50% of Chernobyls in first 10 days if no reactor has blown up? Where did it all come from - spent fuel? When the explosions happened I heard on the news that this didn't seem so bad (hydrogen explosions, this is NOT Chernobyl where HUGE amounts of radioactive material was plunged into the air etc) But 50 % is huge. Have I misunderstood something completey? Sorry if this is a very stupid question - maybe it is all clear to you -I have not been able to follow all of the disussion here.
by Jill in Sweden 3/26/2011 3:56:29 PM

  • For reference on how radiation looks when hitting a digital camera chip (CCD) take a look at this video: [UPDATED] radioactivity on video - just like inside chernobyl www.youtube.com
    by WolfDK 3/26/2011 3:56:59 PM

  • If there it's only a trial period, I believe that it's only $20/mo. (correct?). I'm sure that we can pass-the-hat.
by Karen Warren 3/26/2011 3:57:09 PM

  • @Karen Warren no worries i got it covered
by George Gibb 3/26/2011 3:57:34 PM

  • @Ralph Unger You might want to add www.nisa.meti.go.jp and fukushima.wikispaces.com as useful links...
by Joshua Diamond 3/26/2011 3:57:50 PM

  • @stef Yeah, mainstream sources have all been given the nod & wink by the powers that be to shove all this under the carpet. I've never witnessed such an obvious and blatant media blackout/laundering in my life. Why did Reuters pull their mainstream live blog I wonder?
by Paul (UK) 3/26/2011 3:57:55 PM

  • @Peter Melzer Probably Reverse Osmosis (RO), very common these days. Had it not been for the earthquake the Japanese could have made some for cooling.
by Jim Carver 3/26/2011 3:58:09 PM

  • @futureisnow I have to auto-approve you again
by George Gibb 3/26/2011 3:58:50 PM

  • [test for george new ip, let's see if i'm still in auto]
    by futureisnow 3/26/2011 3:58:55 PM

  • [george, you were right, it depend on ip]
    by futureisnow 3/26/2011 3:58:56 PM

  • If you jump half way through this video. You can see the effects and earthquake has on water.. Also note the pool lights are torn out.

  • @kb, Oh I am sure they do already. But they will have to set up way more to achieve improved sampling and a greater spatial resolution. The stuff may fallout in hot spots that need to be identified.
by Peter Melzer 3/26/2011 3:59:27 PM

  • @ Paul (UK) That is the truth- I'm so upset right now and extremely worried. I have been following he news non stop for any answer at all.
    by stef 3/26/2011 3:59:38 PM

  • @Mina, only Gamma radiation will be powerful enough to penetrate the camera lens and housing, in the reference video i posted the CCD chip have been cut open to allow Alpha radiation to hit the chip.
    by WolfDK 3/26/2011 4:00:56 PM

  • @futureisnow My IP rotates every six hours or so. But I've only signed in once, last night.
by Jim Carver 3/26/2011 4:01:07 PM

  • @WolfDK: Thank you, that sounds logical!
    by Mina 3/26/2011 4:02:07 PM

  • [@george yes, I try to find a way of loging with that nickname and the accounts they accept here, no need to approove this message, thanks for the tremendous work you're doing for this blog . When I found a way, if I can't use the same nickname, I will mail you from futureisnow @ walla.com]
    by futureisnow 3/26/2011 4:02:46 PM

  • @NHK Listener Re: pool video -- agree it is impressive, but note how much of the water remained in the pool. Also note that spent fuel pools have meters of water above the level of the fuel rods...
by Joshua Diamond 3/26/2011 4:02:59 PM

  • @Paul (UK) I don't know what is worse, a cover-up, or possibly the experts in charge themselves lack information.
    by Bobby1 3/26/2011 4:03:11 PM

  • @stef Sadly, we are all in that boat. At least we can share concerns and maybe get some knowledgeable answers here to ease our worries
by George Gibb 3/26/2011 4:03:13 PM

  • @ Jim Carver : george was right, it's ip dependant
    by futureisnow 3/26/2011 4:03:20 PM

  • @futureisnow Thanks for the help - I was wondering about this also
by George Gibb 3/26/2011 4:03:47 PM

  • @Paul. The same thing happened in WI with the public protests against the state killing public unions. There were hundreds of thousand of people protesting for a month straight. There was more media coverage on foreign media about it than US. US media barely mentioned it. The common thought is that it was unattractive for businesses who are pushing the killing of public sector and they didn't want people around the US seeing the large uprising.
    by Nancy 3/26/2011 4:04:35 PM

  • I could setup a static IP, but, see how it goes.
by Jim Carver 3/26/2011 4:04:39 PM

  • If this is going to get shut down today please someone post where everyone is moving to. Out to go do things.
