  • @Kat ya thats been the case

  • @Kat We assume Media Blackout !
    by VeenOui 3/26/2011 11:10:00 PM

  • @Kat TEPCO is missing, missing in action. dead, eerie quiet
by marie rich 3/26/2011 11:10:12 PM

  • Matsuoko, I read about that days after the earthquake. If people have not the subject is worth the read. These reactors have some major design flaws. Bad enough that very high up engineers quit some very well paying jobs in protest. GE was releasing statements this week trying to dismiss the entire issue with a bunch of non-statements that avoided the issues. Those reactors need to all be decommissioned.
    by Nancy 3/26/2011 11:10:20 PM

  • @James Ward : that's why they went away that first Monday when Kan ticked out.
    by Matsuoko 3/26/2011 11:10:27 PM

  • @Kat - I've noticed this too. It's starting to seem like there's a BP executive working for TEPCO.
    by Miles 3/26/2011 11:10:57 PM

  • @Kat Seem to have some sort of blackout. Dr. Kaku was saying disaster ahead. Some maybe cooked up numbers. That's about it.
by Jim Carver 3/26/2011 11:11:13 PM

  • @Miles GOOD ONE LMAO
by marie rich 3/26/2011 11:11:30 PM

  • I was truely amazed when Reuters posted my comment about how to fix the nuclear industry
by George Gibb 3/26/2011 11:11:46 PM

  • I missed it.
by Jim Carver 3/26/2011 11:12:14 PM

  • ah ok, glad it's not just me, thanks
    by Kat 3/26/2011 11:12:22 PM

  • I don't remember your comment, George, can you post it again?
    by Janis 3/26/2011 11:12:23 PM

  • OTOH reuters censored my observation that it seems China was jumping at the opportunity to make Japan look bad by claiming two passengers arriving in China were highly contaminated. Anyone know what happened to that story? One passenger was from Nagano -- not very close to Fukushima.
    by Alaskan 3/26/2011 11:13:31 PM

  • @Kat Two possible reasons for the lack of news about Fukushima in the news today: 1) everything has stabilized, no problems, be happy; or 2) things have gotten so serious they don't know what to say at this point; or 3) somewhere in-between. Personally, I think the situation is somewhere between points 2) and 3).
by James Ward 3/26/2011 11:14:07 PM

  • Computer term: FILO First in Last out - in the event of a nuclear incident management must be on-site hands-on. Then you would have managers helping operators turn wrenches and not trying to source the cheapest nuts and bolts
by George Gibb 3/26/2011 11:14:13 PM

  • Chinese just hate the Japanese. The oder ones still talk about WWII and the rape of Nanking, etc.
by marie rich 3/26/2011 11:14:38 PM

  • Does anybody believe this Tepco press release? It is not credible.
    by Sky 3/26/2011 11:15:46 PM

  • @Alaskan There's been a couple of disappearing stories like that. I have wondered what happened to the articles about Zirconium in the ocean.
    by Miles 3/26/2011 11:15:58 PM

  • Have you guys read this? arstechnica.com it's quite technical, but if you have a little knowledge it will blow you away.
by Patrick Kelley 3/26/2011 11:16:10 PM

  • In a perfect world, George
    by Janis 3/26/2011 11:16:17 PM

  • @Sky : this is Daini not Daiichi
    by Matsuoko 3/26/2011 11:16:30 PM

  • @James Ward I don't think they have much of a clue as to what's happening. That scares me more than anything. Confused bosses, exhausted workers and nuclear disaster. an unholy mix
by marie rich 3/26/2011 11:16:42 PM

  • @Sky You have got to be kidding!
by Jim Carver 3/26/2011 11:18:26 PM

  • Thank you Matsuoko. I will read more carefully before posting next time. I'm just in a state of hyper-alarm and not as thoughtful/diligent as one should normally be.
    by Sky 3/26/2011 11:18:30 PM

  • hi every one.... my question.. why didn't plant @2 blow up too
    by Dean 3/26/2011 11:18:53 PM

  • @Marie, yes, I kknow. I live part time in Hong Kong and recently toured the Naval museum there -- Japanese occupation was terrible. But this still does not justify China's lies about present day facts. We need to stop accusing others and start realizing we all share this planet and depend on each other.
    by Alaskan 3/26/2011 11:18:58 PM

  • @Sky Daiini is the wrong Fukushima reactor facility...Daiichi is the where the disaster is taking place.
by James Ward 3/26/2011 11:19:24 PM

  • ichi = one, ni = two
    by Miles 3/26/2011 11:19:50 PM

  • Do reactors in "cold shutdown" still need to be maintained? If workers started dropping dead from radiation in Daini, could that be a further problem?
    by Bobby1 3/26/2011 11:19:52 PM

  • Oh yeah Dai-ni. It is stable.
by Jim Carver 3/26/2011 11:20:15 PM

  • Yes everybody who corrected me. Thank you. Here is the link to Tepco's release on Fukushima Dai-ichi 8 PM March 26 Japan time. www.tepco.co.jp
    by Sky 3/26/2011 11:20:24 PM

  • @sky, you aren't far off tbh, the only change in Daiichi is this listed under reactor 2 -At approximately 4:46 pm on March 26nd, the light in the main control
    room was turned on.
    by Canadian 3/26/2011 11:20:37 PM

  • @dean
    by WolfDK 3/26/2011 11:20:45 PM

  • @Bobb1 Yes, they need active cooling but since reactors 5 and 6 are hooked up to the electric grid, they should be OK.
    by kb 3/26/2011 11:21:24 PM

  • @Dean, newer design, fueltanks not washed away, grid power still available ?
    by WolfDK 3/26/2011 11:21:34 PM

  • @Bobby1, if spent fuel pools need to be kept cool, I imagine cold shutdown reactors need water, too, even with control rods deployed.
    by Alaskan 3/26/2011 11:21:43 PM

  • beware!!!! SPOOF ALERT @ DEAN
by marie rich 3/26/2011 11:22:01 PM

  • Maybe it's Dean-ni?
    by Alaskan 3/26/2011 11:23:13 PM

  • well Wolf.. my theory is.. and tell me your thoughts.. when plant three blew up the explosion blew a hole in the side of the plant 3 up there where it kind of looks like a window. .so, the venting done containing hydrogen just vented off to the atomosphere
    by Dean 3/26/2011 11:23:18 PM

  • @marie rich, obvious
    by WolfDK 3/26/2011 11:23:25 PM

  • @dean they said that panel was taken off to vent steam.
by Patrick Kelley 3/26/2011 11:24:03 PM

  • I was watching the news and just thought of it..
    by Dean 3/26/2011 11:24:09 PM

  • They are currently:

    * Hooking up cables and repairing electrical stuff (difficult because of radiation and water)

    * Trying to figure out how to get rid of the water in the flooded turbine buildings

    * Spraying water on top of Reactor No. 4
    by kb 3/26/2011 11:24:14 PM

  • @WolfDK ditto
