I'm lost. NHK reports that "an increasing number of residents have reportedly returned to their homes in suburban areas surrounding the troubled Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant." However, the Yomiuri Shimbun states: Experts say govt should give more detail in designating evacuation zones. (...) The Yomiuri Shimbun calculated radiation doses based on data from the Fukushima prefectural government. These calculations were made under the premise a person was outdoors continually from March 14 to 4 p.m. March 24.

The estimates showed a person would have absorbed 620 microsieverts of radiation in Minami-Soma, about 24 kilometers from the nuclear plant, over that period. But the number reached 4,000 microsieverts in Iitatemura, about 40 kilometers northwest of the troubled plant.

Four thousand microsieverts far exceeds the 1,500 microsieverts an average person in Japan is exposed to naturally in a normal year.

Anybody's got closer access (friend, kin, kin of a friend, friend of a kin... heck, even the floormop person with a good set of ears or eyes) to the nuclear medical practice in Japan? Gleaning accurate insights about the medical conditions of those exposed to radiation plantside at Fukushima could indirectly illuminate a lot of things about the situation on the ground, methinks. Thanks.

I have to ask myself what on earth the Japanese are thinking, to have such news releases / press conferences.
With every statement being made and translated by the media, it sounds more and more incompetent and how is anyone to even believe anything anymore?

@Diane We invented the wheel - aircraft - went to the moon and beyond a few times - and learned how to replace our internal organs. I'm pretty darn sure we can figure this out. Relativity speaking we are a rather young species. Evolution may be just beginning. I don't know but I believe in the human potential.

I'm glad you all liked the video. I think I'll keep finding things like that, just because I don't have any expertise in any of the subjects being discussed. So I can only give timid input and try not to sound too much like a college student in the liberal arts field.

@CaraBnr: I have worked as an Operator/Millwright in Oil and Gas, Mountain destroying Coal, and saw the evil of my ways, for the last 3 yrs I have worked for a company building the Hydrogen Fuel cell cars that are going to be on the market in 4years, Mercedes F-Cell has been a major project that I have been proud to be a part of. Thought my kids might be proud of me on day.

@Tenzing: I want to believe in the human potential, especially at the individual level. But I'm not sure we have what it takes to survive collectively with the things we have invented (case in point), that is, psychology cannot catch up to technology. I can talk about this for a long time ))

The attack on the good earth we have inherited for the sake of profit is not only disgusting, but is threatening our species, not to say many many others.
