re the blue glow seen on tepicam -Also it is more than likely that fuel rods/radioactive objects were ejected in the explosion on three it is not impossible that there is radioactive debris in the trees would that give a glow?

@Tupperware Enthusiasts (OT, delete as needed) -- back in the '80s my sister and I found a mysterious tupperware of rotten, stinky, congealed (and probably radioactive) sludge in the way back of my grandmother's fridge. Unidentifiable. We asked her what it was, and it turned out it was "Weenie Water" (her words) -- as a child of the depression, she had a few issues with saving things, and had actually planned, months ago (or longer...), to reuse the water that she once cooked some hot dogs in.

@Markfm Agreed, from that distance any Cherenkov would have to be line of sight, (like FM!), or a pretty direct reflection of INTENSE action, so would it have to be from the #4 SFP? But the action there is at the bottom of the pool...

It's a floodlight. On the Putzmeister perhaps...

@Markfm do you have any info or sites that would help identify how "hot" the cleaning system would become (should be concentrated) and how long it would stay hot (half lifes) if no longer in the system.... ex... sludge tank laying outside a building (still contained or busted open)

@fitter MOD has not released a heat image since April 26th. There were also many missing daily images before that. I may see if I can find out what the issue is with the heat images.

I'm back all. I've asked a number of my friends here in Hiroshima about the current level of discussion in the Japanese press about the raising of the limits for school kids. In general the response is that it is a very big story in the news here, and there is a lot of discussion, but many commentators on both sides of the issue. One friend told me that it is clear that many people are distressed about it, but unsure how to force/demand a change.

Notice the hot spot in the middle of the photo below. This is my high res motorola Droid phone, flash off, covered by a thick layer of fabric. Just tweaking the contrast and brightness, you end up seeing the response of the imager -- mine runs a bit hotter towards center.

@fitter MOD is not even putting heat images in the folders on their site for those days. I tried doing a URL hack. It is highly unlikely they have stopped heat fly overs.

As you can see, the effects aren't uniform -- COTS electronics. Another imager would quite reasonably show its hot spots elsewhere.

@fitter yes they can, but there are few alternatives. Japanese politics has been a one party show almost since the occupation ended. Now Prime Minister Kan, who is from the Democratic Party is being attacked by the LDP, the party that ruled all through the establishment of the nuclear power industry here in Japan, and will likely fall before long and be replaced by the LDP. That said, there is news that anti-nuclear power candidates are rising in the polls even in areas with NPPs.

I'll delete my comment string on CCD imagers in a bit, just wanted to show people how you can't trust them under bad lighting, pushed beyond their nonexistent spec limits, particularly if you then play with brightness and contrast.

A lot of hits on sludge at: www-pub.iaea.org Around p. 42 I see a specific radioactivity reference, but it sounds like it is a highly variable thing -- depends on just what makes up the sludge.

@Markfm The hot sludge was from a normal towns sewage treatment plant. Hot from contamination from Fuku, but not normally having anything to do with nuclear.
