  • @lillymunster tepco explicitly said today (or yday) that the steam is radiated and they want to develop as little steam as possible. i was astonished reading that.

  • @es #3 starts spewing around that time also and seems to look like darker smoke coming out.
    by lillymunster 7/7/2011 9:03:12 PM

  • @Edano they seem to slide in little bits of truth here and there. Makes one wonder how much radiation has been released watching 4 and 3 spew steam on a daily basis for months?

  • Nuke plant equipment fails quake-resistance check

The Japanese government has found that electrical equipment at a nuclear power plant in eastern Japan does not meet earthquake-resistance standards.

The Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency inspected nuclear power plants nationwide after the March 11th earthquake damaged equipment at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. The plant was unable to cool its reactors after losing power.

The agency found that the level of quake-resistance of the electrical equipment at Tokai Daini nuclear power plant in Ibaraki Prefecture was below the standard set by power companies.

The Tokai Daini plant is currently undergoing regular inspections. The operator plans to strengthen the quake-resistance of its equipment during the inspection period.

The agency says the electrical equipment in other nuclear power plants are up to standards.

Once it identifies what caused the damage to the equipment at the Fukushima Daiichi plant, the agency plans to re-examine all nuclear power plants in the country.

  • @Edano that is a sign of things breaking down. They can't remember what lies they told last week or the PR department is just so weary the facade is falling off.

  • Genkai mayor retracts plant restart consent

The mayor of Genkai Town in southwestern Japan has retracted his approval for the restart of 2 reactors at a nuclear power plant in his town.

Mayor Hideo Kishimoto on Thursday informed the decision to President Toshio Manabe of Kyushu Electric Power Company which operates Genkai plant. Kishimoto conveyed his retraction to Manabe by phone after the town assembly approved his decision.

On Monday the mayor informed the utility of his approval for the restart of the 2 reactors that remain idle after routine safety checks were completed in April.

But the mayor changed his position after the central government announcement on Wednesday that it will conduct an additional "stress test" at all nuclear reactors in Japan to ensure safety.

At a news conference on Thursday, the mayor criticized the government for previously saying that it was safe for the 2 reactors at the Genkai plant to come back online.

He said Prime Minister Naoto Kan now says the stress test is a precondition for allowing the restart of the operation of reactors. The mayor said his earlier decision to approve the reactors' restart appears to have been made in vain and feels nothing but anger at the government.

The 2 reactors at the Genkai plant were to be the first in Japan since the March 11th disaster to be given official go-ahead by the hosting municipality to resume operations.

  • @elainekirk I think enough of the population has seen the reality and those who are displaced are slightly back on their feet at least enough to pay attention to news. It will make it much harder for the government and their corporate buddies to do things. The Genkai restart is a good example.
    by lillymunster 7/7/2011 9:18:49 PM

  • @lillymunster NISA it seems is saying they have to inspect all electrical equipment what the heck has kicked ass in Japan? munths of letting tepco pollute then bang 'lets tighten up' or are they deflecting attention?? all very sudden
    by elainekirk 7/7/2011 9:39:42 PM

  • @elainekirk Somewhere in recent weeks I think they finally realized the people in Japan are not going to roll over, take it and go back to whatever. The national paper that did a poll that had in the 80-90% range of people against nuclear or saying they don't trust the govt. That had to be a wake up call. If that much of the population is after your head you can't keep lying to them.

    by elainekirk 7/7/2011 9:51:13 PM

  • @elainekirk It is impossible to hide facts or manipulate the message completely today. There are just so many ways for information to bypass the govt. and corporate controlled media. Also the lies required are no so absurd that a big media outlet could risk losing all credibility if they kept trying to feed the public things everyone knows to be no true.
    by lillymunster 7/7/2011 10:01:34 PM

  • @lillymunster it is an own goal once the iaea practically gave them the carry on nod they stopped giving any kind of info that was useful so the people rallied to find it for themselves and now the goj/tepco are fighting to get back their 'we are in control' status

  • @elainekirk that seems to be exactly what happened. I remember some comments very early, probably while still on Reuters where people thought this might happen. Eventually people figure out the reality and start side stepping the govt. to deal with it. I think we have officially hit that point.

  • There's a great camera angle in the T-Hawk video here that shows how the floor below the service level of Unit 4 was uniquely blasted out, as it lines up in perspective with Unit 3 where the lower floor is not blasted out : www.youtube.com Someone, sorry I can't recall who, pointed out here that Tepco's gas-leak-from-U3 theory would deposit hydrogen into the floor below the service bay, as Sekimura's presentation shows vents connected to the shared stack are located in the floor below (see page 51, I recall) dels.nas.edu

Note sure how up-to-date this is, but this METI Agency of Natural Resources and Energy official directory lists Yoshinori Moriyama as "Director, Nuclear Power Operating Administration Office": www.meti.go.jp And here's Moriyama's debut appearance at the Foreign Press Briefing (about 4 mins in) - The Situation after the Great East Japan Earthquake [July 7, 2011]: www.youtube.com
