  • @Lilymunster I looked up the definition of " real events are so absurd they sound like farce" and got the word for it. US Congress.
by Ralph Unger 7/17/2011 5:58:57 PM

  • @Ralph Unger you could probably get it printed in the WSJ. Too hard to tell humor these days.
    by lillymunster 7/17/2011 5:59:05 PM

  • @Ralph Unger :-)
    by lillymunster 7/17/2011 5:59:15 PM

  • I posted it on The Oil Drum and someone asked me for a link to Dr Hose. To site my source. :-)
by Ralph Unger 7/17/2011 6:01:20 PM

  • @Ralph Unger I learned the hard way not to suggest something as absurd humor when I worked in marketing. Twice I had execs want to run with it, even after I told them I was joking they thought I had a good idea. Both were along the lines of your dumping in the sea one. I learned to not suggest absurd things anymore.

  • Cite.... Always me with the typos...
by Ralph Unger 7/17/2011 6:03:37 PM

  • Good point, I should listen to it and learn from it, but those who can't get a joke are not people who concern me.
by Ralph Unger 7/17/2011 6:04:48 PM

  • Did I post the link to the article? So I would assume it is not trustworthy.
by Ralph Unger 7/17/2011 6:05:35 PM

  • Added a Sunday news roundup to the group site. I have a bit of time Monday morning to crank out a couple more articles. The instances of contaminated food I have compiled to write something. If anyone thinks of something else we should get posted let me know. I can also put them together to be posted at a later date. Also if you have something you want to write and want it posted just let me know, we can get it put on the site.
    by lillymunster 7/17/2011 6:05:54 PM

  • @Ralph Unger It concerned me that I sent a project manager off a a tangent to do something that would blatantly be screwing consumers. It is a good measure for who has no morals though. :-)
    by lillymunster 7/17/2011 6:07:00 PM

  • in other words, don't let TEPCO catch wind of it.
    by lillymunster 7/17/2011 6:08:15 PM

  • I see where you are coming from, but only in "soft " businesses can such mistake be made. People who make things will detect the BS instantly.
by Ralph Unger 7/17/2011 6:08:41 PM

  • @Ralph Unger it was a manufacturer...
    by lillymunster 7/17/2011 6:10:44 PM

  • My bad, I thought it was marketing.
by Ralph Unger 7/17/2011 6:18:36 PM

  • Please accept my apology. :-)
by Ralph Unger 7/17/2011 6:20:35 PM

  • @Ralph Unger marketing for manufacturers. I also had two companies ask me to photoshop out Chinese workers in factory photos. :-(
    by lillymunster 7/17/2011 6:23:53 PM

  • Would an engineer make a mistake if you posted a silly bit of information as a joke? No only the uninformed would make such a mistake. Which is most salespeople.
by Ralph Unger 7/17/2011 6:26:20 PM

  • hmm, can't find any news on kyodo and nhk ....

  • @Ralph Unger product managers, execs. There is a reason I don't trust many big companies. I know how they operate inside.
    by lillymunster 7/17/2011 6:28:31 PM

  • @Edano twitter is dead. Oh Elaine mentioned Monday is a holiday in Japan. Current time 3:48am. The holiday weekend might be the cause?

Irony alert: IIRC it is a festival holiday that has something to do with respect the sea. With the typhoon ready to make landfall.
    by lillymunster 7/17/2011 6:29:24 PM

  • When we even outsource our infrastructure, we give up our country.
by Ralph Unger 7/17/2011 6:29:48 PM

  • @lillymunster From that:
"This is nothing less than a colossal blunder by our ministry. It was beyond our expectations that [straw that was stored outdoors] would become a source of radioactive contamination," a ministry official said.

The old "Who could have imagined" defense.

  • What is the word for that stuff that flows downhill?
by Ralph Unger 7/17/2011 6:47:12 PM

  • "beyond our expectations" - main theme of the disaster.

by Ralph Unger 7/17/2011 6:48:51 PM

    by Edano 7/17/2011 6:49:26 PM

    by Edano 7/17/2011 6:50:35 PM

by Elaine Kirk 7/17/2011 6:52:40 PM

  • @Edano They washed the outside of the cows. They'll be fine.
    by RadioGuy 7/17/2011 6:56:03 PM

  • @Elaine Kirk Really? Dilute the bad out with milk that would otherwise be bad, so it's all under the limit? Are you kidding? It's a sad commentary that it's almost impossible to tell these days.
    by RadioGuy 7/17/2011 6:58:45 PM

  • @RadioGuy that is the constant excuse that nobody expected.. even when it was obvious something would happen or they knew is was going to happen. It is like the universal excuse even if the bad outcome was intentional.
    by lillymunster 7/17/2011 6:58:46 PM

  • @RadioGuy I started looking at tetra pack milk from outside Japan to see if that would be an option. Horizon makes tetrapack. Trying to find out where their contract farms are and how to find the manufacture date on the carton.
