@Majj I am of the opinion that they are fools they wanted to prevent the area becoming a no go area , they want to normalise living with radiation. I have a disturbing link

@elainekirk i ve been saying that for a long time. they want to do the contrary of chernobyl.

"Why no Speedi info in Japan?" Ministry of Education (in charge of the system) "Weather Agency doesnt offer data of the wind to us,

Demon's pamphlet: Ministry of Health distributed 3million of them in Fukushima & surrounding prefs (cont)

by elainekirk 8/3/2011 10:30:15 PM

but this is not a japanese idea. iaea is proposing this kind of disaster management as a lesson from chernobyl. economy is more important than health and nukes are safe, even when they explode.
by Edano 8/3/2011 10:33:26 PM

@Edano is it really so impossible to live in the mountains that they have to keep fuku going
by elainekirk 8/3/2011 10:33:36 PM

@Peter Melzer There are lots of players who are in denial and want to protect their job, their business etc. You have mayors and economic development types who know if they admit the reality the area will become a no mans land. Instead of admitting the reality they try to convince people there is no problem. It is the same short term greed based thinking that plagues lots of things everywhere. It isn't helping that the central govt. is giving people no way out and fostering the "denial economy"

@RadioGuy the exact same mentality went into the salmonella outbreak in the US. It started in March but didn't make the news until August. This morning there was no way they could recall product because they didn't have enough info. Tonight they recall 36 million pounds of Cargill (honeysuckle white brand) ground turkey. Why did it take so long and so much reluctance? It will cost a big ag company money.
by lillymunster 8/3/2011 10:45:25 PM

@Peter Melzer The land issue makes nukes in Japan an even more intolerable situation. But back when nuclear was introduced the US was in total denial of the risks and the Japanese that pushed nuclear adopted that same thinking. I have to think that part of Germany's determination to end nuclear power is a land issue. There is a more finite amount of land in Germany than the US or Russia. You ruin hundreds of miles of land you have to put people somewhere else and if your already population dense...
by lillymunster 8/3/2011 10:47:46 PM

The Japanese nuclear industry/govt. use a patriotism angle to manipulate people. Support the region, good memories of what the region represents, the good of the country etc. Those are very hard things for many to resist.
by lillymunster 8/3/2011 10:49:19 PM

i think the germans have calculated a nuclear accident in dense population (all german nukes are in dense regions) against forcing renewables. the result is clear. but it is still cheaper to deny a nuke accident.

hi Bo!
by lillymunster 8/3/2011 11:14:23 PM

about 20hrs ago the news page was closed (going on the last post) when I woke 16hrs ago I couldnt restart it and ticketed scrib , Jonathan restarted it and said the account had expired and the day staff would contact me . George told me on this page a month ago that he pays automatically every month and not to worry about the countdown on the dashboard as it just renews so we know it is paid by George.
Oliver from scrib wrote two hrs ago and said "Unfortunately ScribbleLive can no longer keep your account as a free service. "
he offered a discounted service 50% off but when I tried to pay it the system said I couldnt because it is George's ACTIVE account !.
I have tried to contact George but, as he said, he is out of contact till this job finishes in the next week or so
I wrote back to Oliver saying that as George is paying but out of contact we do wish the Japan Earthquake page to remain open and I am willing to pay for the organise (they didnt shut organise) but whatever they do will they please keep the Japan Earthquake page open .
That was 2hrs ago and I have heard nothing back so I am just informing people of where we are at
by elainekirk 8/3/2011 11:17:53 PM

Do we still have a fallback location?
If we need to pay it I would hope maybe it could be done over the phone if the system won't let you.
by lillymunster 8/3/2011 11:20:03 PM

@bo how is Hiroshima Peace week
by elainekirk 8/3/2011 11:20:20 PM

@elainekirk it is getting busier and busier, and hotter and hotter. One thing I would say is that I have been contacted by a number of journalists looking to do a Hiroshima/Fukushima angle story, so expect to see a lot of that this weekend.
by bo 8/3/2011 11:22:12 PM

@bo that is marvelous so long as it doesnt detract from Hiroshima and it's place in history
by elainekirk 8/3/2011 11:23:59 PM

@lillymunster I am stumped that is why I posted I know George is paying, I know scrib gave him some free add ons I have told Oliver that he is busy on a job I am just very concerned that he hasnt come back to me if he wrote at the end of his shift then the site is going to time out before he gets my reply
by elainekirk 8/3/2011 11:27:21 PM

@Peter Melzer thank you I thought oh goody I will go pay the money and all will be k but it wouldnt let me because George has paid , scrib have probably tried to contact him but of course he is uncontactable and he wont have been expecting a problem
by elainekirk 8/3/2011 11:33:20 PM

@elainekirk hopefully it will actually make Hiroshima more relevant to people who have stopped thinking about it!
by bo 8/3/2011 11:37:36 PM

I'll post reports over the next few days of goings on here. I know there are a lot of anti-nuke rallies planned.

Sorry was reading an email someone sent me pages of photos of Okaton. :-)
by lillymunster 8/3/2011 11:43:47 PM

My understanding also was that George had put it on recurring payments thus why we didn't set up something else to handle the charges each month...
by lillymunster 8/3/2011 11:44:36 PM

I am hoping that since it is 6:44pm they won't do anything until tomorrow since they are likely out of the office. Did you contact them through the trouble ticket or customer support email addy?
by lillymunster 8/3/2011 11:45:40 PM

I @lillymunster it is George has got it on monthly payments but it seems the freebies they added on are expired that can be the only explanation .
they closed it about 21hrs ago so
I contacted them by ticket Jonathan sorted it very quickly it was reopened within minutes
by elainekirk 8/3/2011 11:48:08 PM

@bo I do hope the rallies are succesful and your weeks events go well

TEPCO reports cooling system's reliabilityThe operator of the Fukushima power plant says it could restart injecting water into its crippled reactors within 3 hours after mechanical problems or power failure halt the plant's cooling system.
Tokyo Electric Power Company made the claim in a report to the industrial ministry's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency on Wednesday.
The agency asked TEPCO to report how it will deal with the failure of the cooling system, which recycles decontaminated radioactive water as coolant for reactors.
The report says TEPCO could restart the system within 30 minutes of a loss of power or the water pumps breaking down by using extra pumps and emergency generators.
If problems occur simultaneously, TEPCO says it will use fire engines to restart injecting coolant water within 3 hours.
The report admits that if the circulation of coolant water is suspended for several hours, temperatures in the reactors could climb high enough to cause radioactive releases, or another hydrogen explosion.
The company says it would increase the amount of coolant water to the maximum levels in such an emergency.
TEPCO's report is expected to help the government review an emergency evacuation advisory for local residents.

Evacuation orders to be lifted in late August
The government says it wants to lift evacuation advisories in a few weeks for areas 20 to 30 kilometers from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.
A recovery timetable released on Wednesday proposes lifting the evacuation notice later this month or early next since the situation at the plant has improved.
The plan covers areas between 20 and 30 kilometers from the plant. Residents there are currently advised to stay indoors and prepare for emergency evacuation.
Many residents there have been forced to evacuate, and schools and hospitals are closed.
The government says it will begin negotiations with local municipalities later this week and ask them to draw up reconstruction plans.
The measures are expected to include reopening hospitals and other public services and decontaminating schoolyards.
The government says it will support each local government to help them bring residents back home.
