  • @MaryW I hope he does. I have seen more of the established independent journalists taking notice of these "rumors" of illnesses. There was a tweet this morning that the Japan Medical Assoc has numbers showing increases in leukemia. need to find them

  • @Edano, would you have any access to JMA information network or similar system that would have their health statistics data? www.med.or.jp
    by lillymunster 11/28/2011 8:51:17 PM

  • I am assuming, medical information is also considered confidential in Japan as in the US. Perhaps that is why we are not getting a whole lot of news on this. It'll have to be up to the individual to come forward with his illness' signs and symptoms.
    by MaryW 11/28/2011 8:52:53 PM

  • @MaryW I am looking for generic anonymous data like we would get from the CDC where they might list how many cases of something happened but no personal data. Someone collects it for public health purposes. The JMA was mentioned in the tweet citing an increase in leukemia cases.

  • Nuclear Power Goes Rogue: Post-Fukushima, the market for nuclear power is changing latitudes. Here’s what’s at stake. As the full cost of the Fukushima nuclear accident continues to climb—Japanese officials now peg it at $64 billion or more—nuclear power’s future is literally headed south. Developed countries are slowing or shuttering their nuclear-power programs, while states to their south, in the world’s hotspots (think the Middle East and Far East), are pushing to build reactors of their own. Normally, this would lead to even more of a focus on nuclear safety and nonproliferation. Yet, given how nuclear-reactor sales have imploded in the world’s advanced economies, both these points have been trumped by nuclear supplier states’ desires to corner what reactor markets remain. www.thedailybeast.com

  • @Edano. If you have access to Japan health data. What is in question is leukemia statistics for Japan last year vs this year and if it can be broken down by region or prefecture.

    by lillymunster 11/28/2011 11:07:48 PM

  • @lillymunster yes, malignant neoplasms.
    by Edano 11/28/2011 11:08:26 PM

  • @Edano It goes up to June 11. Any idea on getting July-Oct? IIRC the tweet suggested it is more recent months they saw the increase. This spreadsheet is useful as it has annual data for comparison.

    by lillymunster 11/28/2011 11:34:43 PM

  • In truth on the effects of the Fukushima radiation from a clinical statistical standpoint will most likely come from US and other countries medical reporting. Not from Japan sources.
    by MaryW 11/28/2011 11:36:33 PM

  • @MaryW The health agencies and medical association are who would track that data. Luckily the general health data comes out of a different source and not the Fukushima "health" research
    program

  • old news:

The government has discovered thousands of cases of workers at nuclear power plants outside Fukushima Prefecture suffering from internal exposure to radiation after they visited the prefecture, the head of the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency said. [...]

The revelation has prompted local municipalities in Fukushima to consider checking residents’ internal exposure to radiation.

Nobuaki Terasaka, head of the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency, told the House of Representatives Budget Committee on May 16 that there were a total of 4,956 cases of workers suffering from internal exposure to radiation at nuclear power plants in the country excluding the Fukushima No. 1 Nuclear Power Plant, and 4,766 of them involved workers originally from Fukushima who had visited the prefecture after the nuclear crisis. [...]

But as of May 16, only about 1,400 workers have gone through checkups — roughly 20 percent of the total number of workers. And only 40 of the workers have had their test results confirmed. [...] enenews.com Mainichi, May 22, 2011:
