  • @lillymunster in germany, most of the bigger buildings for living are in communal hands, so the legeslative hesitates to establish construction laws.

  • @MaryAnn yes sure

  • On the 2 webcams...TEPCO's webcam shows a red blinking "beacon"..at what I presume is the north end of the reactors...JNN's webcam does not show this beacon...is it, perhaps, just off-frame to the north?
    by MaryAnn 12/4/2011 5:37:43 PM

  • @MaryAnn it should be directly at the #1 plant, fixed to the big crane.
    by Edano 12/4/2011 5:39:24 PM

  • ok...Building #1 probably obstructs it's view from the JNN webcam...
    by MaryAnn 12/4/2011 5:40:15 PM

  • @MaryAnn yes, for some obscure reasons this link is not available for europeans, but lilly will help you when she's back.
    by Edano 12/4/2011 5:43:06 PM

  • i can only guess it should be visible.
    by Edano 12/4/2011 5:44:04 PM

  • Thank you....Am I correct that Building #1 is completely enclosed now, and the sides up on #2?
    by MaryAnn 12/4/2011 5:44:08 PM

  • @MaryAnn only #1 is completed, the others do not have any cover at all.
    by Edano 12/4/2011 5:45:05 PM

  • Thank you....

  • I read some conversation here about nuclear vehicles. Well, there it is. It doesn't get any more nuclear than that, considering around 80% of France's electric energy comes from nuclear power plants. Pollution displacement.

    by Edano 12/4/2011 6:30:26 PM

  • incompetence, negligence, impotence.
    by Edano 12/4/2011 6:32:43 PM

  • I think the plan (just my speculation) is to get the habitations to where they are safe (by government standards, anyway) so people can start coming back. In the beginning, there was a lot of speculation about towns "dying", and from what I've read that seems to be happening. Has any of the area been re-opened?
    by MaryAnn 12/4/2011 6:35:35 PM

  • @MaryAnn i don't think so. they only suspended the "ready for evacuation" status for some distant areas.
    by Edano 12/4/2011 6:38:03 PM

  • rumour: red flashlight over #1 has decontamination function :)
    by Puc 12/4/2011 6:38:37 PM

  • @Puc the effect is the same.
    by Edano 12/4/2011 6:39:15 PM

  • So far no area has been reopened. What I worry is the goal is to "decontaminate" an area and tell people they can go home to deny them compensation or relocation. Notice before and after levels are not being mentioned. EX-SKF and a bunch of other places have documented how frequently the levels just do not fall after decontamination or if they do they will start creeping right back up like in the case of a home near a forest.

  • Questions swirl around $6 billion nuclear lab By JERI CLAUSING, Associated Press –2 hours ago SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) —At Los Alamos National Laboratory, scientists and engineers refer to their planned new $6 billion nuclear lab by its clunky acronym, CMRR, short for Chemistry Metallurgy Research Replacement Facility. But as a work in progress for three decades and with hundreds of millions of dollars already spent, nomenclature is among the minor issues. Questions continue to swirl about exactly what kind of nuclear and plutonium research will be done there, whether the lab is really necessary, and —perhaps most important —w. www.google.com
    by Majj 12/4/2011 7:31:44 PM

  • @Majj Maybe the money is going for some black project. There are a few around Los Alamos.
by Pedro Jesus 12/4/2011 7:33:59 PM

  • @Pedro Jesus black project funding in the US doesn't make it into normal pubic funding. IIRC it gets buried in DoD's budget
    by lillymunster 12/4/2011 7:37:41 PM

  • Has anyone seen an official document citing a dose rate derived the official individual dosimeters? Here's an excerpt citing such for the month of September, from an expired-media report:

"The city has collected the individual dosimeters from 36,478 residents for analysis and found that 99 percent of them had been exposed to no more than 0.3 millisieverts of radiation in September. Apart from the four children, no other residents in the area were found to have been exposed to over 1 millisievert of radiation." webcache.googleusercontent.com
    by Ian 12/4/2011 8:50:32 PM

  • @Ian I have seen nothing reporting about childrens dosimeters or anyones...
    by lillymunster 12/4/2011 8:51:21 PM

  • @lillymunster, well, at least there's that report, captured in google cache, which is temporary. But I'd suspect/hope there's gotta be another source than an ex-media report.
    by Ian 12/4/2011 8:53:42 PM

  • @Ian Mainichi has been purging old disaster stories. I saw another one gone the other day. If you see a mainichi story that is important it is worth saving a copy for reference.
