    by MaryW 12/2/2011 7:30:58 PM

  • @MaryW sure. it's the beginning.
    by Edano 12/2/2011 7:31:54 PM

  • I remember that. There were some people thought it was the actual model and we were all doomed.
    by lillymunster 12/2/2011 7:34:08 PM

  • I think we all should rent the dvd and watch it together:<))

    by lillymunster 12/2/2011 7:50:00 PM

  • Oh, but I see the date above map is April 18th. But why would they be posting it as an oct data
    by MaryW 12/2/2011 7:50:21 PM

  • @lillymunster only for contamination over 500mSv (0.5Gy)

    by lillymunster 12/2/2011 8:06:00 PM

  • @Puc LMAO :-)
    by lillymunster 12/2/2011 8:06:08 PM

  • the dosimeters only measure external exposure. 250mSv internal must be a hell lot.

    by Edano 12/2/2011 8:09:20 PM

  • @Edano really odd the list of external exposure doesn't show as many workers with high external. The WBC internal levels show quite a few with high levels.

  • @Lilly - ty for enhancing my beliefs :-)

    by Vivre 12/2/2011 8:15:04 PM

  • Could reason be workers are suited up to protect from high external exposure, therefore, showing low external exposure?
    by MaryW 12/2/2011 8:16:04 PM

  • @MaryW i would say yes.
    by Edano 12/2/2011 8:16:52 PM

  • "Until now, scientists have only been able to estimate very roughly how much of the energy from the radioactive material that is released in the "source organs" is absorbed by these organs themselves, and how much reaches other organs nearby and is absorbed there. This provides values of "organ doses" given that the spread of the radioactive material around the body is already known. These values allow health effects to be predicted but they cannot be measured directly so schematic models of the human body have been used to estimate the energy absorptions." www.innovations-report.de
    by Edano 12/2/2011 8:18:53 PM

  • So maybe the suits helped but many had mask failures? Or they were able to be relatively well decontaminated to lower external but since you can't scrub your insides....
    by lillymunster 12/2/2011 8:21:31 PM

  • "Dose-response relations were observed for death from hemato- and lymphopoietic cancers and from upper aerodigestive tract cancers, adjusting for age, time since first monitored, pay type, and external (gamma) radiation dose. No association was found for other cancers, including cancers of the lung. Despite the small number of exposed deaths from specific cancer types and possible bias due to measurement error and confounding, the positive findings and strong dose-response gradients observed suggest carcinogenic effects of internal radiation to the upper aerodigestive tract and the blood and lymph system in this occupational cohort." www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov

  • The ultimate study, in my opinion, would be on signs and symptoms: such as, fatigue, nose bleeds, airway congestions. And years of follow-up, since radiation related diagnosed illnesses and deformities will first show up years down the road. Good example is Chernobyl

  • from the Japan Focus article
“Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Harvest” treatment has been put forward by doctors as a way to minimize the chances of bone marrow deterioration among workers, but this was turned down by the Nuclear Safety Commission of Japan. Nishio asserts that this is evidence that they simply do not grasp the severity of the situation.
Apart from the iodine that they are being given, workers should also be taking Radiogardase (Prussian blue insoluble capsules). Not working to bring together the best preventative medicine, Nishio asserts angrily, is an example of “graveyard governance”.

I don't think the stem cell harvest was ever done and I have heard nothing about any workers being given Prussian Blue
