  • Reply to all...if you are havng disturbing feelings and are feel you are bombarded with thoughts and images that you'd rather not have, then you need to consider a change for a while. I could not watch the videos of the tsuanmi raining death across the coast of japan, I had turn away for a time, I had to consider what I felt I could handle emotionally and mentally. The reactor crisis is not under human control at this point and there will be destruction, and there will be a way that this all becomes the past for us but this may not be the time that you want to be constantly bombarded with this.

  • @tenzing am working, later when i can print plant layout so i know what building i am looking at i will look further at video...BUT WITH THE PLOTIUM ISSUE if you look at the actual explosion www.youtube.com (remeber scale - height of build vs exhaut risers vs explosion plume... )it would not surprise me if they did't loose the top of the reator then... any one in this field,,, comments??? also what are the readings saying as far as when they started.. how much??? WILL RETURN tonight, but does anyone have any thoughts on why that explosion was so so much greater than #1 ..and #1 went outward and #2 and or #4 still have roofs- outward explosion.. welcome any thoughts back on #3... just to high and to much force for me to think all was still OK... and where did the sfr pool go???? sorry so sloppy!!!

  • @fitter I think the reason #3 was so damaged relative to #1 and #4 had to do with the hydrogen. The gas itself will not ignite; it needs a spark to set it off. Since a greater quantity of gas built up in #3 before the spark set it off, there was more hydrogen present. It is like the difference between a firecracker going off and a warehouse of firecrackers catching fire. Just bad luck that the gas built up to such a degree before it ignited.

  • @Jim If you don't understand all the lingo, it means hydrogen gas is inflammable at room temperature and very low ones at that. The temperatures inside the buildings were very high at the time of the explosions.

  • Hydrogen does need an ignition source to oxidize at normal temps and pressure. Also, the more air (O2) mixed with it, the bigger the explosion.

  • @Pedro Jesus Yes, I agree, but hydrogen will not spontanously combust. Once it gets going though it makes for a very impressive explosion as we saw.

  • @jim i would almost agree except two reasons..1) because of #1 knew what was going to happen and IF IF they had any way to monitor.. would have though that they would vent (even though thats not a good thing) before risking the further damage from the exploion.. 2) from looking at the building construction it appears the top three sections are made to relieve.. explode (outward) so as not to contain the explosion inward... some labs are built with blow out walls for this reason.. and they do work... but just conjector.... like every thing else with the TEPCO info
