www.cnn.com This is a story about a video of the tsunami hitting the plant, I remember there was speculation a few days ago about the height of water at the plant, and according to this article it was 48 feet.

Tokyo (CNN) -- A brief video clip released Saturday captures the massive tsunami that crippled Japan's Fukushima Daiichi power plant, showing the wall of water that slammed into the facility and created an ongoing crisis.The video shows the giant wave generated by the historic March 11 earthquake crashing over the plant's seawall and engulfing the facility, with one sheet of spray rising higher than the buildings that house the plant's six reactors. Tokyo Electric Power, the plant's owner, told reporters the wall of water was likely 14 to 15 meters (45 to 48 feet) higher than normal sea levels -- easily overwhelming the plant's 5-meter seawall. www.cnn.com

I'll be out of here in a couple of minutes. Just a note before I get up: Would be good to obtain new heat signature images that correlate in some way with @Canadian's collection of earlier images, the better to compare the heat sigs of specific items after a lapse of so many days. The heat heat would have cooled down by this time, and what remaining heat sigs would most likely be heat generated by radiation or hot isotopes. Thanks all.

@James Ward I'm not trying to nitpik the experts, but if a point of view is biased... On March 16 video, Gunderson said "no way to avert crisis"...this is "Chernobyl on steriods" and "reactors are in runaway". These are not scientific statements. I appreciate the guy may be understandable to the lay person, but the guy has a dog in this fight, and it's not readily apparent that it is on the side of true expert appraisal of the casualty. Simply advice to look at where he is coming from. www.fairewinds.com

@alblee @all as there piping/equipment systems come back online there would be (assumimg) cold/hot signitures... showing these.... not sure, but i think may be possible to trace the trenches???? ref to all dates could be important.... could we start a "file" of them, so they are in one place

@George G good point on the roof struct..etc... concrete is going to show different thermal depending on the tep/sun of that day..

@RBean Yes, I know where Gundersen's "coming from"...I can read just like anyone else participating in this forum. I also know that at the time of his March 16th comments, Fukushima was in a lot of trouble whether you want to admit it or not. TEPCO was being very misleading, to the point of actually lying, about what was really happening. I appreciate Gundersen, as well as all of the others, who gave us a good basic understanding of the gravity of the situation in the early hours and days.

German utilities: Abolish nuclear power by 2020

BERLIN—Germany's utility companies want "swift and complete" abolishment of nuclear power in the wake of the disaster at Japan's Fukushima reactors, says their umbrella organization.
The technology should be phased out by 2020 or at the latest by 2023, the German Association of Energy and Water Industries, BDEW, said Friday following a board meeting.

@ich - Sorry friend. Germany's reactor shutdown program has turned Germany into a power importer. They will be hard pressed to replace their nuclear power with green energy sources within 10 years. www.reuters.com

@ich There is a persistent hoax here in Spain: Spain imports nuke power from France. The truth is, we are exporting electricity to France since 2004, incidentally when spain installed lots of MW of wind power (and we continue installing).
Spain covers roughly 30% of electric demand with renewables (40 million people). You can see that data in real-time in these very cool widgets here (I think this info system is unique to spain and REE):

@radioguy @Tenzing : there is a common energy net in the EU, and tje energy is bought from tjhe cheapest aveilable country: Germany has always been an exporter of energy before the shutdown of half of its nukes as well as today. in the 4 weeks of March there have been two hours of importing energy to Germany. and it is a joke to say that it was imported from France. it could have been bought from Austria or Italy as well (they have no nukes.) the lie has been proved by Greenpeace, sure you will find it in your deep research. as long as all people all over the world are ready to spread nuke lies, as long they will be keeping on building those murdering plants.

@ich sure, it's easy to phase out nuclear power, but reality is that renewables will not cover 100% of power generation by 2020 - unless there is major investment in power storage to smooth out uneven generation from wind/solar right now, which there isn't.. so removing nuclear power from the mix in that time frame means either significantly more domestic fossil fuel power plants or electricity imports - be they from nuclear or whatever abroad.. if either of these two outcomes are very useful environmentally is doubtful IMO

@lch then answer this simple question.. What will provide the electricity that the switched-off nuke plants provided? if anything, electricity demand will increase as people are encouraged to switch to electric/hybrid cars, so no jokes about efficiency please..
