That is really weird, I got a different image than NHK did even after a refresh. Must be some computer oddities. I can see the red boom. As far as I know there is only one boom being used unless something changed.

The black thing is twice as tall as the red thing of course they turn into pixelated junk by that point.

@marie and Nancy Agreed. Does seem awfully high. @Bobby which would imply it's emissions of some sort, right?? I live by the ocean, and that is not marine fog...

@Edano It only shows its dark side to Saturn when it directly between the sun and Saturn. Angle is everything. That's looking back toward the sun (blocked by Saturn) and the Earth is nearly gibbous.

@NervousinNJ could be wind down of whatever caught fire. I have to wonder if it was 4's sfp since it was that direction and they seemed to be spraying. Still don't know what the hot spot on 4's refueling deck is. It gets hot every few days.

*really*? Now offered at lunch at a Japanese government restaurant: a rich curry and rice, topped with Fukushima vegetables fresh from the nuclear-emergency zone.

It is part of an unlikely twist in the eat-local movement as the government presses a skeptical public to accept that food from the contaminated northeastern coastline should be purchased, roasted and devoured, not avoided.

Tokyo - Workers in the damaged Fukushima nuclear plant were attempting to reduce radioactive contamination in waters off the coastal power station, but the levels of highly radioactive water keep rising, the Jiji Press agency reported Saturday.

Some 300 kilograms of zeolite, a mineral that authorities hope will absorb radioactivity from water being pumped the Fukushima reactors, were deposited into the Pacific Ocean, just outside a pipe leading out of reactor 1. www.monstersandcritics.com

good evening, just popping in to ask a quick question: was there any follow-up on that stuff they were spraying over the site to keep the radioactive dust down? they had stopped because of rain, but did they start again? is it showing up in recent photos? i have been thinking about the comments about hurricanes/etc and was wondering if spraying the dirt down (as it were) might have any impact on that.

@kaykodh what an eviromental disater this is.... if you look at the pic that have been up you notice they are missing two or three storage tanks, i think they were fuel... all that "crap" in the plant willn run to the ocean and groundwater eventually... this is beginning to make BP like a minor spill

Japan Using Absorbent Agent To Cut Radioactivity At Nuclear Plant

TOKYO (Dow Jones)--The Japanese government said Saturday that it had begun distributing a special agent that can absorb radiation into ocean waters at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant to further contain seawater contamination.

The material, known as zeolite, is a mineral that absorbs cesium, one of the radioactive agents that has been leaking at the plant.

Tokyo Electric Power Co. (9501.TO), the plant operator, said it plans to use zeolite to also purify cooling water at the site.

More than 10,000 metric tons of low-level radioactive water from the quake and tsunami-hit Fukushima nuclear complex was discharged into the sea from April 4-10 to make room to store more heavily contaminated water.

Japan's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency said the discharged water was only lightly contaminated. Still, the move raised concerns among neighboring countries over the spreading of radioactivity through the ocean. e.nikkei.com

@Thunder, sorry for some delay clearing you through the stuck mod queue.

BTW, any additional insight you may have regarding upcoming meteorological outlook vis-a-vis Fukushima Ground Zero and surrounding prefectures would be edifying, to say the least, especially as the nearest two prefectures -- Ibaraki and Kanagawa -- are well within a typical typhoon coverage around Fukushima. Thanks.
