@Peter Melzer As wet as the skies were a day back, it looked like more than actually fell I guess. I just discovered a serious language issue here. Referring to days in past tense where one of them is today over the date line. And in a forum that spans the globe. I bent my brain trying to word that.

@Paul, that is the issue with accidents like this. As long as people do not get immediately sick in big numbers, there is little public concern. At the levels we in the U.S. will be exposed, only epidemiology will tell in retrospect how many more cancers may be associated with this incident. Even with that knowledge, there will be no causal proof. The discussions about the health hazard of low-level radiation seem purely academic to me and detached from everyday life. If you ever have the chance to pose questions to public health professionals, ask them at what threshold they would stop giving milk to their children.

And we have as easily been distracted away from Deepwater Horizon, which the press would also lead you to think was over, "Nothing to see here..." while meanwhile the "nothing to see" has eliminated this year's oyster crop in Louisiana.

@George Gibb I was reading again about the SL-1 criticality accident and there are a number of things in the events with that, that sound very familiar to 3's explosion.

@James Ward These were activist journalists. Anyone of them would have had the same reaction as you to the Donald Trump story. But this they didn't find journalistically interesting enough to cover.

@Peter Melzer Doctors can get proof or evidence through analysis of tissue samples of deceased cancer patients.

@LM, I would expect the sea water contamination to rise significantly during that time. They can't even take care of the contaminated water in the buildings until then.

@radioguy We live in a sound-bite world in the US...if it's not happening right this second it's not fresh news. Additionally, if it's not a story involving a scandal of some sort then it will not maintain an interest level over time. And finally, the major corporations who own the media (like GE) have a vested interest in steering certain stories away from the public. Sadly, the Internet is the only viable way to continue to report the news on major disasters like Fukushima.

@radioguy I know lots of adults who glaze over even when talking about it in the simplest of context. I have a certain group of friends who have some passing interest but they tend to have a passing interest in more news that everyone else.
