Am I losing it or does some of the smoke on the cam coming from within the trees like by the common pool?

Speaking of TEPPY cam, since it has been so long since the disasters, I'd say that the trees haven't received any excessive radiation that would kill them. The original browning effect was more than likely caused by salt in the trees' water supply from the tsunami, and judging from the latest TEPPYpic I conclude that only the weakest trees suffered permanently from it. Would love to know in the end, though I doubt anyone will spend any time researching it on the ground at this point.

Tech question, can radar technology be applied to finger rad signature in a way similar to how spectrometry differentiates things? Thanks.

@alblee Not sure, possibly since it bounces off things to "read". If it can pick up clouds it might be able to pick up particles, not sure about gasses.

@alblee I don't know if radar would do much good. But you can look at the spectral emmission of gamma rays, we've gotten pretty good at that in astronomy.

@alblee Astronomers have really gotten good at looking at the whole spectrum these days. Since optical is only a small fracton of the EM band. One of the things we've learned is the enormous power of a gamma ray burst. A burst could blow our atmoshere away from maybe as little as 10 000 light years.

The discussion led me to think about stuff like "repurposing" things such as the Hubble telescope. If it can show us what the Universe looks like through radiation, it would most likely be able to pinpoint EXACT locations of radioactive materials around a disaster zone... Just sayin'.

Introduction

My index of nuclear energy information. I was a pro-nuclear guy until the Fukushima incident shows what happens with things happen outside of design parameters. Lots of people die with conventional energy, but at least it doesn't spread radioactive badness across the planet and render farmland and seas useless for food when something goes badly wrong.

@Nancy The Berkeley site only has air results up to 4/17 and the EPA lab analysis for all CA sites appears to be from 3/30. The individual EPA monitoring stations show multiple spikes but there does seem to be an across the board spike in beta-emissions around the 19th or 20th....even here in San Diego.

Does anyone know the gamma energy designations for the various isotopes coming from Fukushima? The EPA site doesn't have a breakdown and the gamma levels here in San Diego are the highest in the state....especially energy levels 2 & 3. I've tried googling to no avail.
