Can I get somebody to check out the 9 am, 10 & 11 am Teppy cams over on the new site. The 9 am has a building between the two right towers, and in the 10 & 11 am cams, the building looks like it is gone, you can now see the forest in the background between those tow towers. Also in the 11 am it looks like little plumes of smoke coming up in that area ?? Or is my monitor getting really bad ???

@wtm I looked - the 11am had a start of smoke again. I think it may be a time of day thing where the buildings look odd. I have seen it before. there seems to be a pattern with the smoke, it will build over maybe 3 hour shots and then die back down.

@Jim I don't agree. The links are good, but the embedded content is sometimes (not always) undesirable in the bloat it adds to the information feed here. IMHO.

@Nancy, thanks, my monitor doesn't have enough brightness/contrast to get it lighter. Not sure if the building (#3) is just faded into the background, or it is gone now

@Jim I like the teppy cam (reminds me of 'the craw' if any of you were there for the Macondo Oil Drum group last year) but links to it would be good enough, frankly, as they would to the other movies and pictures that force people using Scribble to download megabytes of content with no choice. IRC works from cell phones, or any computer, with any internet connection.

Blast may have helped cool rods

A hydrogen gas explosion at the No. 4 reactor of the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant on March 15 may have helped prevent spent fuel rods from melting down by causing a flow of water into the pool the rods are stored in, according to research by Tokyo Electric Power Co.

It seems that shocks from the explosion damaged a water gate and caused water to flow into the pool from a neighboring part of the facility, TEPCO said.

The explosion, which the company assumes was caused by hydrogen gas, was so strong that the outer walls of the reactor building collapsed.

At the time of the explosion, the spent fuel rods had been overheating. If that had continued, the company said, the rods might have melted, spewing a far larger quantity of radioactive materials into the air than actually happened. www.yomiuri.co.jp

Activists have found the cancer-causing, fibrous material in the air and debris collected from the devastated northeastern coast.

On March 28th 2011, we were advised from Nuclear Safety Commission of
Japan to enhance the sampling survey regarding water in underground floor
of the turbine building of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. In
order to verify any leakages to underground and sea, and safety, we have
been implementing the sampling survey of subsurface water and seawater.

Regarding sampling surveys of sub-drains, based on the instruction from
NISA on April 14th, we continue to conduct same kind of sampling survey
three times a week, and inform the result on the next day of the survey.
(Previously announced)

On April 27th 2011, we had conducted sampling surveys regarding sub-drains
(subsurface water obtained and managed in the site) near the turbine
buildings of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. Today, we had
informed the result to Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA) and the
government of Fukushima Prefecture, because radioactive materials were

@wtm All the pics rob put up are remote control so if they are spraying by remote would battery replacement/charging/water supply explain long periods with smoke followed by periods without do you think?

can we have some input from a nuclear physician or engineer, this doesn't look right 6,000 Sv/h? Is this number possible first of all, it looks too high and the graph does
n't list the reactor number on top?
