@talisker Put it thise way, if you're right next to a spent rod, that's 10 000 Sv/hr. And yes #4 was supposed to be empty and that's why they say there's no problem. I can't figure that out except figures don't lie, but liars sure can figure.

@Jim Carver good to have an insight on the maximum Sv/hr of a rod. Sorry if it is common knowledge here, but want to ask where is the information for the reactor sensors coming from, are there any published tables?

Oh but that's the spent fuel pool so yeah, that's the one that leaks but doesn't have a leak.

@talisker Tepco is the one putting out the data. It gets posted other places like nisa, but it all comes from the company originally.

@talisker The biggest worry pups right now is the SFP in #4 and the reactors in #1 , and 2 and 3 to a lesser degree. What do you bet that the brown smoke we've been seeing is SFP #4?

Ponder this.. if the reactor lid is off #4, wouldn't it be possible for the SFP to overflow into the empty vessel ?

And #4 had the freshest spent fuel because then just took it out of the reactor. Best thing to do if you see one of those rods is to go and grab it and hold on, cuz you're already dead. 10 000 Sv/hr, that's 167 Sv/min or 2,7 Sv/sec

Assuming #4 SFP is overflowing into the reactor vessel, we would have a rough reading of the overflow from the SC readings, right ?

Re: Unit 4 reading -- That 6000 is mm of water (not Sv), the previous level was 4250 mm. I think that whoever is creating the graph needs to double-check their source data. If you look at the raw summary stats chart, you can see the readings for the other units are 3000mm, 6000mm,and no reading for Unit 3. See Attachment 3 in www.meti.go.jp

Then again if the fuel rods are damaged which we assume they are, would it be unreasonable to believe that X amount of pellets and or debris could escape the same way ? know they wont float but the pressure and flow from a putzmeister pump surely must stir things up

@Nancy : don't make me sad :( it's not a toilet. this drawing could explain my question how they get the rods in and out. they put a casket in the sfp and this could be that element in the picture.

@Edano Not sure what they are representing with the toilet. The upper corner of the SFP has racks in it up to the edge gap as do the other sides. Maybe they were trying to represent where some of the equipment for maintaining the pool is?

@Edano Have you see such in a picture or trying to propose where they would put a casket in? From what I have read on the fuel moving process, yes, they sink the inner casket into the pool, load rods into it underwater and then pull that casket out after they seal it and put it in the bigger outer casket.

@Edano I would need to go back through the casket info I have. I don't think it has pictures of the loading but there might be some mention on the tour posters but it would be written in Japanese. There were some signs by the caskets that might have an illustration. Those would be in the #3 tour on my site.
