@Veen Oui #1 is the only semi-intact bldg in which water might actually (eventually,maybe, they hope, or not) build up to above the rpv., thus effecting 'water entombment'.

That's why they're worried about containment vessel deflating (pressure-wise) like a balloon with a slow LEAK. Their plan didn't anticipate having to DOUBLE the nitrogen injection. And they wanted to increase water injection, but then- not!

Tepco admitted on the 27Apr. that the torus was full of water. At that point, then, the pressure in it should have become stable, IMO. And yet it dropped from 170mPa (IIRC) to yesterday's 120mPa. Same with drywell pressure

We're in an odd position here, since we've already been through this, so every time they announce some "plan", we know it won't work, and that it's looking like they're doing something while stalling for time while they try to come up with a plan. They just recently got to "You know how we told you Grandma's on the roof?" We've already moved on to "No, the other Grandma."

@radioguy LMAO. One last observation, and I'll get off my soap box. I think they exacerbated the leak(s) formed in March with their 'pump up the pump' test (increased water injection) on the 26-27th Apr. The s/c & d/w temp was fluctuating but fairly uh, static between 1Apr. and 27Apr. between 170-155 mpa. Now it's 120mpa. I didn't look at the stats for 27th to 29th, tho.

@radioguy It is such a bizzaro series of actions and events. The PR people announce certain things that other people are saying the actual technical people at the plant are saying already they won't work. Like the pillars under #4. I am surprised they have not announced the "turning other buildings into swimming pools" idea yet. Maybe they are saving it for a day when there is bad news?

Tepco is also injecting nitrogen to the reactor system to reduce the chance of a further hydrogen explosions. More than 12,400 cubic metres of the gas has now been injected - over double the amount originally planned. Tepco said it decided to continue the operation to further mitigate any risk.A test will be conducted tomorrow at unit 1 to help determine the true parameters of the reactor system, sensors for some of which may have been damaged during the accident sequence. Tepco will temporarily raise the speed of water injection from 6.1 to 14 cubic metres per hour and observe changes in reactor water levels, pressure and temperature as well as primary containment vessel pressure.

@marie rich not sure. I wonder if it would be in any of the historical spec documents? Some of the old US bwr documents might have it. Should be the same IIRC #1 is the standard GE bwr first version.

Tepco acknowledged there was water in the basement of unit one early on, so maybe that's where the water is going. Could be back-flowing thru busted one-way valves, if nothing else. www.nisa.meti.go.jp

@marie rich, heh, heh,..., they must generate radionuclide analyses regularly and these must indicate that they are not out of the woods yet. Otherwise they would not continue injecting nitrogen.

But there has been a long list of incidents where we suggest or mention something only to see it show up in official things days later. This was before the media noticed the blueprint. So someone is lurking :-)

I tried to find the volume but was struck by the egg problem, apparently they dont do the egg shape because although it can withstand a jet aircraft hitting it it is weak internally as in a chick being able to peck it's way out of a egg
