by Ralph Unger 5/14/2011 6:18:58 PM

  • @UKVal That definitely could be the case. It just seems to me that the right roof section has separated from the right wall and is hanging down. I might just be seeing things!
    by LM 5/14/2011 6:19:27 PM

  • i always say it's not leaning. it is just the upper deck that makes the illusion.
    by Edano 5/14/2011 6:22:35 PM

  • @LM - you're not seeing things -I'm pretty sure it has separated from the wall at the sw corner - but it's been like that for a while. The qu is whether it's sagging more...
    by UKVal 5/14/2011 6:22:38 PM

  • It seems more pronounced today, but you're right..it might just be the lighting. I guess time will tell.
    by LM 5/14/2011 6:24:23 PM

  • @Edano -see Nancy's work on 4 - pinned above
    by UKVal 5/14/2011 6:24:51 PM

  • @UKVal : still nonsense.
    by Edano 5/14/2011 6:27:14 PM

  • @edano Even Tepco acknowledges the lean...that's why they're trying to shore it up.
    by LM 5/14/2011 6:28:50 PM

  • @Edano 'Nobody's input should be belittled'
    by UKVal 5/14/2011 6:29:44 PM

  • @LM : you mean: "Arnie Gunderson at Fairewinds is now citing that he has confirmation from TEPCO that the building is collapsing." ? i do not doubt that it is collapsing, but it does not lean. and i do not want to belittle anything - sorry if necessary. it is just - not true.
    by Edano 5/14/2011 6:32:17 PM

  • @Edano - we can't see the rest of the building, but I doubt it all leans. Guess we agree that it looks bad whether it's leaning, buckled or collapsing!
    by UKVal 5/14/2011 6:39:40 PM

  • @edano I'm glad you know that for sure. Looking at the pictures
    by LM 5/14/2011 6:40:30 PM

  • I think @ukval has settled the point nicely leaning/collapsing/buckled are all polite ways of saying it is *&^^**(((
    by elainekirk 5/14/2011 6:41:57 PM

  • @edano I'm glad you know that definitively. I admit that the only thing I do know for sure is that Fukushima is a mess.
    by LM 5/14/2011 6:42:02 PM

  • @elainekirk -quite!!

  • @LM -we do know the ground has sunk & 1 article described as 'tofu' - presumably all that water can't be helping & if the bedrock is shale (I'm still trying to find the geological info) then it will have fractured badly as well
    by UKVal 5/14/2011 6:54:54 PM

  • sorry, was in moderation for a while ......
    by Edano 5/14/2011 6:56:29 PM

  • @LM : i don't want to argue about this. i agree it's a mess. :)

(but just imagine: we have a building made of concrete and steel. in the center there is a huge lightbulb of concrete and steel, sitting on an even more huge torus of concrete and steel below ground. and below it several meters concrete in the ground. and there are concrete and steel floors with crossbars. it may collapse, it may lose its roof and blow off the upper floor, but it will never lean. think of the WTC. they just collapsed without leaning.)

  • @edano No arguments. I think it's all semantics and frankly we are all speculating at least a little. Even Tepco is scratching their head....Just my 2 cents.
