  • @UKVal we also had significant earthquakes during those 2 events. So the shaking could have done something. If they water together could make the steam increases coordinated later on.

  • @Ralph Unger Te-129m and Te-129 are still being detected. I-131 is not dropping off as fast as its half-life would indicate. So we are still getting some fission.

  • @Ralph @UKVal - I agree about the simultaneous steaming but on the 2 big occasions the amount of smoke/steam from #3 was exceptional and seemed to be either coming out lower or hanging in the air in an unusual way.

  • Questions: if the structural integrity of R4 is such that the building is now visibly LEANING, is it rational to believe the structural integrity of SFP within R4 is not SEVERELY damaged? If the SFP within R4 is LEAKING its contents, would it not end up in the Ocean and Ground Water Supply? If R4 were to collapse how would this effect its closes neighbor the infamous R3 loaded with MOX FUEL and what I see as the most neglected topic of conversation THE COMMON SPENT FUEL POOL STORAGE FACILITY located directly behind (land side) of R4? How much if any MOX FUEL is stored in the common spent fuel pool storage facility? These are the questions I've been pondering . . 3.bp.blogspot.com

  • I wonder what's been going on inside the plants ie: entries by workers that we've not heard about to fix instruments, survey,, photograph etc... I had heard that they said melt was in the basement of #1.. I wouldn't want to have been the one going in the basement to actually identify that.. seems like speculation to me,,, they had to drill holes in the walls at chernobyl to see the corium with remote cam..

  • @All good morning, campers. Re: cycle. It could be that the pile fissions until too much Xenon137 is produced. That 'poisons' the fissioning and puts it into the Iodine pit for two days. When they Iodine 'burns off', fissioning resumes, and on, etc.

  • This is new to everyone, I would think that an exposed core would lead to massive radiation and destroy the landscape, the radiation is not nearly as bad as I would have thought. Still very bad for the people around the plant though.

  • all combined with energy levels of neutrons and that U235 has a large cross section for absorption on thermalized neutrons,,, when you get a melted core together as in the corium mentioned, it really gets complicated.

  • true Ralph, and, I've always been taught that a criticality accident, one which is the prompt critical or uncontrolled criticality release a horrendous amount of enegry that can act to blow things apart thus spewing out the contamination to the ground or atmosphere

  • Nancy check this out: A screen shot taken at 0715 HST captures faint traces of smoke rising over Fukushima reactors #3 and #4 during the still dark and early morning hours. Tom Burnett, who forwarded the link for this live stream from the disabled plant, was also the first to alert us that smoke, no doubt highly radioactive, was emanating from the reactor buildings…. hawaiinewsdaily.com

  • a neutron born from fission is a high energy or fast neutron, typically it goes through collisions with the moderator material .. water in the case of fukushima containing the hydrogen atom which is about the same mass as the neutron.. after about 15 collisions or so the neutron is considered thermalized and gets sucked up by the U235 atom . or by a poison like control rod or Xe WHICH PEAKS right after the reactor is shutdown
