  • Upon reading more about the suppression surge tank, its whole purpose seems to be exactly what its name is. The video's I have been watching have talked about the main reasoning for a surge-suppression tank, is literally a buffer which stop pressure building in pipework, or in our case the sup
pression chamber/pipes. Once a pump stops working or water stops flowing, low pressure can form within the pipe, which then starts the water flowing backwards. The surge suppression tank literally balances out the pressure between the pipes and the surge suppression tank

  • @Nancy Just to the right inside the green circle is that reflective spot on the top of the pillar. That was the light source last night on the cam. Maybe because it's this side of the smoke on R3.
    by RadioGuy 5/23/2011 12:14:34 AM

  • That is steam rising in #1 and I saw some from#2 as well
    by cat 5/23/2011 12:14:40 AM

  • @cat Yes you can see the steam from R2 swirling away low out to sea.
    by RadioGuy 5/23/2011 12:15:09 AM

  • Steam is coming from 2,3, and 4. That tower gets in the way of the visual on #3, maybe TEPCO could move it for us, eh?
    by deb 5/23/2011 12:16:07 AM

  • @RadioGuy what green circle?
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 12:16:09 AM

  • 4:55 - surge-suppression tank damage

    by Rexz 5/23/2011 12:16:41 AM

  • It embedded that all by itself. How do I just link it?
    by Rexz 5/23/2011 12:17:15 AM

  • @RadioGuy no work light would create the aura we saw if that's what you mean.
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 12:17:22 AM

  • i51.tinypic.com
@UKVal I'm pretty sure I could see little puffs of steam emanating from around the roof seams too. This screenshot shows them I think.

    by es via I51.tinypic 5/23/2011 12:17:29 AM

  • @es yes -thanks!
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 12:17:57 AM

  • @RadioGuy It shows at bright white during the day like now. I don't think I can get a good enough image out of the TBS shots to ID it. If we have any inside the plant shots of that image from the last 2 weeks we might be able to get a look at that area.
    by Nancy 5/23/2011 12:20:33 AM

  • @UKVal No, I meant there was that columnar light on all the time. It made R3 look smaller, because it obscured the right portion, which I think may have been the idea. After the big smokeshow, they turned off the wide floods that allowed you to see all of R3, and went to that one.
    by RadioGuy 5/23/2011 12:21:12 AM

  • It may also have cast that odd shadow on R2
    by RadioGuy 5/23/2011 12:22:04 AM

  • But there was light inside the guts of R3, right? were they working n there??
    by RadioGuy 5/23/2011 12:22:48 AM

  • @RadioGuy ah! yes that light's been there for a while & they def turned off other lights after the smokeshow. & it's what you suggested might cause the shadow on 2 last night. Thought you were suggesting that was the source of the dawn aura
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 12:23:29 AM

  • 'But there was light inside the guts of R3, right? were they working n there??' yes I think it was more lit up before the smoke - but I only saw it for 2 mins before the smoke started
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 12:25:17 AM

  • what we cansay is that 4 hasn't stopped steaming for a long while
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 12:26:45 AM

  • UKVal; Is this the SFP in 4 steaming due to rods exposed and cooling water
    by Sam 5/23/2011 12:28:40 AM

  • @UKVal When I lived up on the island, we had a soup/stew pot that just kept simmering on the back of the woodstove during the rainy season. R4 = Atomic Gumbo.
    by RadioGuy 5/23/2011 12:29:22 AM

  • @UKVal they have made basic entries into 3 but as far as I know no major work inside. They were working on watering and possibly nitrogen? I don't think the bright spot on the top of 3's broken wall is light. Too hard to get something up there and that section is on the verge of falling in.
    by Nancy 5/23/2011 12:29:36 AM

  • @Sam definitely due to hot water - they have to keep putting more in
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 12:29:52 AM

  • @RadioGuy LOL!
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 12:30:28 AM

  • @Nancy if not a light it's puzzling as it seems pretty constantly bright in all conditions
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 12:31:10 AM

  • it wouldn't be so hard to put something up there with those putzes & cranes
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 12:32:05 AM

  • Immaculately Pristine Atomic Gumbo, in fact, apparently.
    by RadioGuy 5/23/2011 12:33:56 AM

  • @RadioGuy R3 was dark this morning, there were no lights on it. i1097.photobucket.com

    by deb via I1097.photobucket 5/23/2011 12:34:47 AM

  • @deb that vertical ight splash between R4 and the tower.
    by RadioGuy 5/23/2011 12:36:01 AM

  • @deb was that before or after the big smoke?
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 12:36:10 AM

  • @UKVal actually it would be. The putzmeisters can get there but have a difficult time doing a task. They don't have the capability to install a light. If they were going to install a light they would likely not pick the columns that are in the worst shape to install on. I wondered about a crane behind but they can't be in that spot, there is connecting building back there so no access.
    by Nancy 5/23/2011 12:38:58 AM

  • @Majj, do you have a link to the source page for the plutonium and uranium graphs you posted from cartoradiations.fr a few pages back? I perused the site but couldn't find the source page(s). Would like to confirm a source on that data. I recall seeing these graphs before, attributed to EPA I believe, but couldn't confirm.
    by Ian 5/23/2011 12:39:31 AM

  • @RadioGuy I believe that is light from 4 reflecting on #3. Again, couldn't share, but in full screen, tilted back to reduce glare, I could see the lit portion of #2 wall literally dancing in the light, it looked to be reflecting from #4, the shadow intensity on the wall, changed with the light intensity in #4.
    by deb 5/23/2011 12:39:52 AM

  • @UKVal Before, within a second of the all black screen to the lights going on. The video is too long to youtube :(
    by deb 5/23/2011 12:40:43 AM

  • @Nancy I've seen cranes working close by. They'd only have to sling a light round
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 12:41:18 AM

  • @deb Did you get the mins before the smoke started?
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 12:42:08 AM

  • @UKVal I believe so, but in this long video :(
    by deb 5/23/2011 12:42:49 AM

  • @Nancy SimplyInform came up as a possible name, or crowdsourced community alliance or something of the sort
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 12:43:24 AM

  • @deb you could be right about the light & so could Nancy about the difficulty of placing a light there. IDK
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 12:44:15 AM

  • was Crowd Sourced Information Network one? or something like that??
    by NervousinNJ 5/23/2011 12:45:20 AM

  • Cool! Did anyone else see the black helicopter?
    by Shadow 5/23/2011 12:47:11 AM

  • @NervousinNJ My first thoughts after "crowd" were rally, protest, demonstration.
    by deb 5/23/2011 12:47:18 AM

  • @NervousinNJ think so. I need to go to bed. I have a horrible feeling the names list will be the original 1. If os I won't be voting as I don't like any of them
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 12:47:26 AM

  • #2 steaming. I have screen dumps from cam from 5th may, but not every day. What day was big smoke day?
    by cat 5/23/2011 12:48:19 AM

  • @UKVal If there are ones you think need added in now is the time to post them. :-)
