@Majj , thanks for the link! Your making many good finds!

@Ian welcome {-)

does anyone else see flames coming out of R4 right now?

@ch see lots of stem .. I have small monitor...
by Majj 5/23/2011 2:58:51 AM
@ch I didn't see any flames but 4, 3 and 2 are all steaming quite a bit.
by Nancy 5/23/2011 3:00:36 AM
@ch I see some thin shining in the rigth side of the stem
by Majj 5/23/2011 3:01:01 AM
@ch I see flames in #4 also.
by deb 5/23/2011 3:02:53 AM
Looked like flames just below and to the left of the smoke. Seems have stopped as smoke/steam slowed.
by ch 5/23/2011 3:05:23 AM
The wind is NE now. Every thing is going toward SW direction .....
by Majj 5/23/2011 3:05:56 AM
@Majj I'm really glad people are speaking out about the children. Thanks! It made me feel a little better.
by LM 5/23/2011 3:09:06 AM
@ch I'm not sure about the shiny thing to the right...that is often there during a big steam event...but there does appear to be something extra going on.
by LM 5/23/2011 3:11:07 AM
@LM Peaple have to see this video : In the Radiation Zone: The Children of Minamisoma City, Part 3 of 4 www.youtube.com

Nite All. Take care.

This guy's been getting high dosimeters reading from rainwater in St Louis. We're realling getting dosed daily : www.youtube.com

#4 is NOT happy. I wonder how long they can cling to the 'pristine' description.
by LM 5/23/2011 3:16:45 AM
@ch, I just seen light steam @4. Keep in mind that it only has a spent-fuel pool with fuel (which video shows is in good condition), its reactor is thankfully empty as it was under maintenance at the time of the tsunami.
by Ian 5/23/2011 3:16:54 AM
Nite Shadow!
by LM 5/23/2011 3:17:06 AM
@Ian TEPCO sad it is empty.....
by Majj 5/23/2011 3:18:51 AM
@Ian good point must just have been the shimmer affect. ty
by ch 5/23/2011 3:19:29 AM
@Ian There are objects on the deck of #4 that give off heat signatures periodically. They have had to water those areas of the floor in the past. Never got any answer from TEPCO about them and they quit releasing to the public the MOD heat images.

If the red stain in the concrete in the photo in www.physicsforums.com is rust, that may suggest molten iron was present in #3 before the explosion, as a result of a corium-steel reaction. Though there are other ways it could have gotten there.
by Bobby1 5/23/2011 3:23:10 AM
@Ian Frankly I don't buy the video they released on the 4 SFP. Thevbuilding is in hellish shape. There was no debris in that video. I'm not convinced...Not to mention the latest from NHK is that they want to measure radiation above 1 and 4. If the SFP were pristinhymn 4 why would that supersede the mess at 3? I'm a serious skeptic!
by LM 5/23/2011 3:24:45 AM
@Nancy, interesting! Yeah, infrared will reveal reality in decisive ways. For other who don't know, Unit 4 is believe to've blown up not due to its spent fuel, but due to hydrogen gas influx of via ventilation systems shared with Unit 3. If so, Unit 4's explosion was a carry over from Unit 3!
by Ian 5/23/2011 3:24:47 AM
I think some one want to see some thing on the TBS cam 3 hours before. They move the cam to right , to left, they zoon in the y zoom out.... At some point they so what they need and the can went to normal position. The moment they put the maximum zoon in was at the 2 tower, I think. Sorry for the bad spelling.....
by Majj 5/23/2011 3:26:53 AM
Yikes...my iPad is regurgitating! The building and pristine in......
by LM 5/23/2011 3:26:55 AM
@LM, yeah, it's hard to believe, except that the theory of gas influx from 3 seems plausible, and #4 blew the day after. I believe the SFP4 videos since I doubt they could be faked so well, and we've seen several videos around the outside of it, in far better shape that the pulverized area around SFP3. www.world-nuclear-news.org
by Ian 5/23/2011 3:28:03 AM
@Ian That might be true, but given the devastation they must have cherry-picked the only spot without debris. I just find myself wondering why they are so concerned with 4. It's been smoking like a sieve. At the minimum they are going to have to acknowledge a leak of water out of the pool.
by LM 5/23/2011 3:30:48 AM
There go the steam incrising now
by Majj 5/23/2011 3:31:08 AM
@Ian I too am sceptical of the SFP video. How do we know it was even from R4? Is it possible that vid was 1) from file vids or 2) from a different reactor altogether? I saw no specific way to ID the pool thus must go on TEPCO say so. Really don't believe much that they have to 'report'
by ch 5/23/2011 3:36:28 AM
@Ian Forgive me...you could very well be correct, but they are definitely having trouble cooling the fuel..that no one can argue about. the fuel in 4 was hotter than all the fuel in the other SFP's and I think it's fair to assume they think there is damage given their new quest for rad readings.
by LM 5/23/2011 3:39:08 AM
@ch The entire video of 4 shows them prepping and going into 4. It still looks really pristine for a SFP that supposedly had some parts from the reactor on top of the fuel racks and an explosion.
by Nancy 5/23/2011 3:40:40 AM
I will have some video up in about 15 minutes, from the last couple of hours or so. Have a PC recording all the time now.
by deb 5/23/2011 3:42:48 AM
If things play out like other TEPCO events have. The steam shows that were initially denied, then claimed were due to morning fog, and now they admit they exist but call them vapor. So now they are testing air over top. So the next will probably be an admission of what is really going on and how much contamination is being released. I have to wonder of the GoJ and govt. agencies are pushing them to do the monitoring tests.

I must sleep - see everyone in 8 hrs, don't forget to vote.
by Nancy 5/23/2011 3:48:24 AM
@Nancy You've definitely got a point...hopefully this blog is having some impact on that push! We can all hope.
by LM 5/23/2011 3:48:30 AM
Night Nancy! Thanks for your effort and insight.
by LM 5/23/2011 3:49:22 AM

Any cam watchers on? Really bright event on 4 now.
by LM 5/23/2011 4:09:53 AM
@LM Yes I am kind of watching. Seems the sun is hitting everything now and making shiny happen.............
by Angie 5/23/2011 4:16:11 AM
@Angie The steam/smoke on top of 4 is really intense right now.
by LM 5/23/2011 4:18:41 AM
Hmm, the tube used to always tell my no when I did videos over 5 minutes, and this time they let do 9 minutes videos, sweet, cuts the work in half! There are 4, here is the first
