  • Do you see the thick black smoke pouring out of 1 & 3
    by deb 6/12/2011 2:32:07 PM

  • Watch it in big screen. Will have a video up in a few minutes.
    by deb 6/12/2011 2:34:23 PM

  • @deb I can't see sh'' ).yesterday, they talked about hard hats working, didn't see that either........I must be blind.
    by Veenie 6/12/2011 2:35:44 PM

  • maybe it's the first time they checked for strontium, but without doubt, the corium dilutes into groundwater.
    by Edano 6/12/2011 2:36:27 PM

  • @Veenie This is the first time that they've admitted that Sr-137 is in the well water at the NPP. Thanks for the post.
    by Reed 6/12/2011 2:36:44 PM

  • @Reed YW, I was watching Bo's interview and he talked about this, not knowing yet of this find.
Question is, has it been there for a while ? Seems as tthough TEPCO and GoJ are releasing media curbing info at will, not as it happens ?
    by Veenie 6/12/2011 2:39:44 PM

  • And, the first private person, just launched a suit against GoJ........ and remember the IAEA gave a thumbs up for handling this.......The IAEA has to be dismantled, all fired !
    by Veenie 6/12/2011 2:41:24 PM

  • they should make international, independent measurings obligatory ! not by IAEA.
    by Edano 6/12/2011 2:41:53 PM

  • @Veenie Has be like this all the Time. The information only come official after the press report it.
    by Majj 6/12/2011 2:42:07 PM

  • i wish the UN would take care of this mess.
    by Edano 6/12/2011 2:42:58 PM

  • @Majj What press MAjj, people like you here, kept ranging the Alarm bell.the press didn't do it's job !!!
    by Veenie 6/12/2011 2:43:00 PM

  • Fukushima Radioactive Water Treatment Halted
Updated: Sunday, 12 Jun 2011, 9:46 AM EDT
(NewsCore) - TOKYO -- The start of a crucial operation to treat highly-radioactive water at Japan's crippled Fukushima nuclear plant was delayed again due to a series of equipment problems, the plant's operator said Sunday, in the latest setback in attempts to bring the three-month crisis under control.
Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) planned to begin a trial run of its new water treatment facility, supplied by France's Areva, on Friday, with an expected full start June 15 -- a plan that was already pushed back from the beginning of June.
But the embattled utility said Sunday that the discovery of leaks in the system Friday and a malfunctioning valve that controls the flow of water forced it to delay the tests www.myfoxtampabay.com

  • TEPCO forced to review reactor 4 cooling plan
The operator of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant has been forced to reconsider its plan to cool the spent fuel storage pool of the No.4 reactor.
Water injection from a special vehicle has not been intense enough to cool the water in the pool, allowing the temperature to remain at more than 80 degrees Celsius.
Tokyo Electric Power Company, or TEPCO, aims to install a circulatory cooling system that will pump water out of the pool and return it there as coolant. The utility originally hoped to put the system in place next month.
On Friday, workers entered the 4th floor of the No.4 reactor building where the pool is located for the first time since the nuclear disaster took place.
They found a large hole in a wall created by the March 15th explosion. They also discovered that a nearby pipe necessary for the cooling system had been mangled. TEPCO says the repair team found it hard to work near the pool as equipment had been destroyed and debris was scattered on the floor.
Fixing the damaged pipe is expected to be extremely difficult. In addition, it remains unclear if there is another pipe that can be used for the cooling system. www3.nhk.or.jp

  • @Veenie I was happy to see that Bo clarified the idea that the 'melt through' is one of the RPV, not one of the secondary containment of the basemat's concrete.
Yes, there is Sr-137, Sr--134, and a host of other radionuclides all over the place at the site, but this is the first time that they've listed more than Iodine and Cesium. We've been hunting/waiting for the full list of fission's daughter products since the beginning.
    by Reed 6/12/2011 2:48:57 PM

  • Morning all! @deb I agree...and 4 is spewing like it did the other night.
    by LM 6/12/2011 2:49:23 PM

  • @Reed : how can you be sure that there is no complete meltthrough ?
    by Edano 6/12/2011 2:51:59 PM

  • by deb 6/12/2011 2:52:47 PM

  • To me, personally and i have said this all along, the GoJ is as guilty as TEPCO, they should be held accountable by UN, WHO etc.
    by Veenie 6/12/2011 2:53:40 PM

  • @Edano Well Yes, it's a complete mess, but we need to start solving it. To say " the latest dat "" from April 6"" shows groundwater contamination... Well that old news, and unfortunately we no how to deal with that from past experience.
    by RBeaner 6/12/2011 2:53:41 PM

  • Feel free to throw up, it's what I feel like doing right now

    by deb 6/12/2011 2:55:21 PM

  • @Edano What?? i wish the UN would take care of this mess. What mess has the UN ever taken care of? Darfur?
    by RBeaner 6/12/2011 2:56:10 PM

  • @Deb Thanks..I was pretty sure I saw black smoke from 3 during the day yesterday but it was largely obscured by tHe stack in front of 1.
    by LM 6/12/2011 2:57:36 PM

  • @Edano We can't be sure of anything with the drips of information that we have,
but based on the visual information of corium behavior of Chernobyl, the pdf information that RBeaner provided about the crusting behaviors of corium, the low temperature data, information from the experts on Physicsforum, Dean's opinion, and the corium tests at Sandia
Labs...I believe that the corium is still held within the secondary containment's basemat.
    by Reed 6/12/2011 2:59:00 PM

  • @RBeaner : yes, of course, an international discussion would put pressure on japan to broaden and reveal their readings in time.
by Edano edited by Edano 6/12/2011 2:59:10 PM

  • @Edano TY for the Goethe. That's the perfect image for this situation...powerful magic, out of control.
    by Reed 6/12/2011 3:00:28 PM

  • instead, tepco and NISA treat it as a personal secret.
    by Edano 6/12/2011 3:00:30 PM

  • @Reed :) it came to my mind some time ago and did not go away anymore.
    by Edano 6/12/2011 3:01:17 PM

  • @Edano OK, the UN is very good about discussion, but their "action" has been much less limited in effect. We are all Stuck with the GOJ and TEPCO, in their current arrangement and relationship for the duration of this disaster, that is reality.
    by RBeaner 6/12/2011 3:01:44 PM

  • @deb thankyou for the video that is seriously scary
    by elainekirk 6/12/2011 3:28:36 PM

  • @ Reed I feel like we are living in a primitive village and our use of fire has gotten out of hand. Seriously scary.

  • Morning all, Deb I caught some flashes on your first video. One was up in the sky but I can't catch the frame of it. Caught another one in the bushes.
    by lillymunster 6/12/2011 3:33:40 PM

  • Mata/later, I've got to work on editing etc...
    by carabnr 6/12/2011 3:34:32 PM

  • @lillymunster Yep, I have seen them multiple times, as well
    by deb 6/12/2011 3:35:18 PM

  • Will have the JNN version uploaded in a few minutes. BTW, new link for that is: www.youtube.com

  • @Veenie Yes, the next video will show #4 smoking.
    by deb 6/12/2011 3:45:37 PM

  • @deb The smoke from 2 looks dark as well...what a mess!
    by LM 6/12/2011 3:52:35 PM

  • @Deb, added two stills of the flashes to the group page.

  • @Lilly Thanks I've noticed those before as well...could they be camera anomalies?
    by LM 6/12/2011 3:58:27 PM

  • Night everyone!
    by Angie 6/12/2011 4:00:28 PM

  • I wonder if it is a camera on the remote helicopter or on the arm of a pump truck if they are they must be getting very worried about the situation as there are so many flashes
