  • @Bobby1 It seems like both parties in DC don't want the nuclear issues discussed or on the public radar. It doesn't help EPA had their funding cut and as far as I know they didn't get any additional money to deal with fuku related testing.
    by lillymunster 6/21/2011 6:55:06 PM

  • @Bobby1 I think this is part of why Woods Hole is doing their research. They get to learn something and we get data that can't be classified and shuffled off somewhere out of public view.
    by lillymunster 6/21/2011 6:56:03 PM

  • @lillymunster I think the deep background on the Jaczko issue is the withholding of the radiation data. Now that we know that Poland has had similar levels of beta radiation the US has had, and this info was released publicly, there is no fig leaf left for the NRC. Also we know about the infant mortality in the northwest and in Philadelphia.

  • i wonder if the russians have any data, since the western world plays blind and deaf.

  • how powerless we are against the woldwide energy cartel.
    by Edano 6/21/2011 7:00:37 PM

  • @Bobby1 I still have doubts about the mortality data. I read an article the other day that showed the months before the study and it showed identical spikes to the ones in the study. I will see if I can find the article again and post it. That aside there is a major problem with not giving the public honest information and from a variety of entities. Multiple govts. and the IAEA are not being open about their information. The lack of info is probably more damaging than the real knowledge. It just seems like the energy companies are being protected.

  • human rights ?
    by Edano 6/21/2011 7:01:56 PM

  • @Edano, Russian or Chinese data would be useful. They may feel less obligated to hide it. It is a human rights issue. The UN declared internet access to be a human right yet we can't get upfront and honest information about nuclear safety.

  • Still no standard reports for Missouri River dams. I did find a crude text sheet with some outflow numbers. Oahe and Big Bend increased output again 160k and 158k respectively. Gavins Point still at 150k. Inflow to the dams is up considerably. www.nwd-mr.usace.army.mil

Nothing enlightening here though! He is seeking to achieve continuous improvements in safety – starting from the baseline of Fukushima??

  • @hedge oh m goodness so another whitewash that man must have been a painter/decorator in a previous incarnation @lillymunster yes if the flooding is due to the dams
by Elaine Kirk 6/21/2011 7:46:33 PM

  • @Elaine Kirk Dams and river management is handled by the federal govt. The corps of engineers is under the Army. I don't know if they could be held liable. I don't remember hearing of lawsuits against the corps after Katrina. There was lots of criticism that they did not upgrade the levees in New Orleans even though it was known for 12 years that the current ones were not high enough. Not sure if the corps has some sort of immunity.

Minamisanriku must pay rent on temporary facility
    Kyodo
SENDAI — The town of Minamisanriku, Miyagi Prefecture, hit hard by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, has been stunned to learn it has to pay rent on prefabricated buildings that were used by an Israeli emergency medical team and now serve as a clinic, officials said Tuesday.
The tsunami-ravaged town, already struggling to ensure it can pay for reconstruction work, has earmarked ¥2.1 million in its supplementary budget for this fiscal year to cover rental payments to the company that built the temporary structures, they said.

The burden on the town could be mostly offset by the central government if the disaster relief law is applied, but "we never imagined that we would be charged," a town official said in a bewildered tone.
The six prefabricated buildings were assembled near an evacuation center.
They still house medical devices such as X-ray equipment left by the Israeli medical team and are now serving as a temporary clinic managed by staff from a public hospital, the officials said.
Around 50 doctors and nurses sent from Israel worked at the buildings between March 29 and April 10.

According to the Minamisanriku Municipal Government, Isamu Sato, mayor of Kurihara, Miyagi Prefecture, who maintains close ties with Israel, coordinated activities for the medical team, and the city placed an order with a construction company to put up the temporary buildings in Minamisanriku.
Sato, along with the Israeli ambassador to Japan and Jin Sato, mayor of Minamisanriku, agreed in early April that the town would continue to use the buildings, but its officials said they were unaware that they would have to pay about ¥2.1 million to rent the buildings for three years.
"I did not receive any explanation about the rental cost from the city of Kurihara. I was stunned when an estimate arrived," Sato said.

  • @lillymunster : they have significant leukemia data since decades near the three npp near hamburg, but of course they are not accepted and downplayed.
    by Edano 6/21/2011 8:13:34 PM

  • @you just recently similar data was presented about children living near a light waste storage. and what a surprise now they say they have illegally stored high rad waste there and there seems no way to get the rotting tons out again.
by Edano edited by Edano 6/21/2011 8:15:19 PM

  • Sorry, hit enter to fast on the phone, radiation during fuel rod exchange much higher than normal but still lower than legal limits. But as it seems there are some scientists in Germany who are concerned about low level radiation and childrens health. There was a study in 2007 which found a much higher rate of children cancer esp. Leukämie. I share some links as soon as I found them... by the way, thanks for the work of all of you, I am mostly lurking but this forum and the page of the group are my favourite source of information on fukushima and helps to talk to other people, big thanks!
    by andrea 6/21/2011 8:17:02 PM

  • @lillymunster The mentioned study was a long time study, but now the operator of the biggest German NPP released day specific radiation data for the first time. Actually they are not obligated to do this, until now they only gave monthly averages
    by andrea 6/21/2011 8:17:22 PM

  • @andrea Is that lower than the old limits, or lower than the new limits?
    by radioguy 6/21/2011 8:18:40 PM

  • @Edano I see, as sometimes before you are more at the topic than me if it goes about Germany, guess we are the only Germans here :)

by Edano edited by Edano 6/21/2011 8:21:04 PM

  • @Radioguy I am not sure whether there is a difference in the limits, as far as I know EU just raised the limits for food, not for airborne radiation etc. @edano?

    by Edano 6/21/2011 8:30:22 PM

  • @Elaine Kirk Disaster aid will usually help with reconstruction or some low cost loans. Since a good part of this could be seen as poor planning they might have a better chance suing if they have the right to.
    by lillymunster 6/21/2011 8:32:30 PM

  • @edano and here a link to a document on the study on children cancer published 2007 www.ippnw-ulm.de she was very much discussed in media and science
