  • @dean Do you want to put some more research etc. into the water management article or do you think it is ready? I need to get feedback from Peter still, not sure if he has read it yet.

  • @lilly not so much the reactor as the ground
by Elaine Kirk 6/23/2011 4:23:17 PM

  • Hard to say. Photos from TEPCO showed #1 with what looked like level ground without breaks but they heavily edit the photos so there could be issues outside of the carefully edited photos.

  • @veenie this morning they announced they were cutting back on watering because it was going to rain didn't they?
    by elainekirk 6/23/2011 4:38:02 PM

  • Are these new images? Do you have a link for the first one?
    by lillymunster 6/23/2011 4:38:17 PM

  • The TEPCO picture you can tell they dumped a TON of dirt in that area.
    by lillymunster 6/23/2011 4:39:05 PM

  • @lillymunster thats the bummer because I get it in this search www.google.co.uk and it says it is in the press pics here www.tepco.co.jp but I cant find it so I did a screen shot

  • @lilly.. I think the water article is good as it stand.. there probably are a few more minor things but I don't think it would add overall to what's already done

  • lol @elaine.. you crack me up.. "clumsily" ha ha

  • Did anyone see the mega-crane on the TBS live-camera yesterday? I've not heard anything about it. It was colossal in size, with an arm roughly equivalent to the tall stacks. The crane in the photo below is dwarfed by the new crane.
    by Ian 6/23/2011 4:45:21 PM

  • es.. and @elaine.. what's the significance of that photo put up by es.. looks like the stack is 1/2 gone.. whewwwwwwwsh
    by dean 6/23/2011 4:45:49 PM

  • @dean TEPCO call it "A montage of laser scan data and construction data 1" on this page (photos for 14 June): www.tepco.co.jp
    by es 6/23/2011 4:49:05 PM

  • I think the picture ES found is some sort of scanning photo. I saw other photos they were using for some sort of reading that had the odd grid and things on the edge of the photo blacked out.

The mega crane showed up yesterday. I think it is part of the tent building project. They had it over at the ship yard doing the test build

  • @lillymunster, just got here, please kindly post the link to the pond article again.
by Peter Melzer 6/23/2011 4:50:32 PM

  • It may explain why they are trying to cover #1 if the basements are open to the air so to speak they have a big problem as every quake/tremor will send more of that topping down into the basements
by Elaine Kirk 6/23/2011 4:51:50 PM

  • I love the shielding wall built out of a laundry cart! I saw a purpose built one looking for something the other day. Looks similar. www.tepco.co.jp

  • this aftershock (April 7, 23:32, M7.1) struck #1 very hard. it was the strongest aftershock since April. i do not want to say that the readings are correct, i only want to point out that it had an effect on the gauges. www.houseoffoust.com

  • by Edano via Houseoffoust 6/23/2011 4:52:34 PM

  • Going to do some photo edits on those images of 1.
    by lillymunster 6/23/2011 4:52:36 PM

  • Is it not the case that the basement covers a larger area than the upper building?
by Elaine Kirk 6/23/2011 4:52:46 PM

  • @Edano It may go some way to explaining those eratic #1 readings
by Elaine Kirk 6/23/2011 4:53:30 PM

  • @Peter - link to article houseoffoust.com
    by lillymunster 6/23/2011 4:54:01 PM

  • @Elaine Kirk basement square vs rectangle building thus the offset reactor well. So only a bit larger off to one side
    by lillymunster 6/23/2011 4:54:55 PM

  • @LM thank you I couldnt remember who had posted it :)
by Elaine Kirk 6/23/2011 4:55:11 PM

  • @lillymunster well that gap twixt building and ground plus the fracture line must mean the concrete basement will be in a mess will it not?
by Elaine Kirk 6/23/2011 4:56:37 PM

  • @Elaine Kirk I would think so, that hole is pretty deep. Reports of steam or smoke in the building while workers were escaping the eq.

  • can pls anyone explain the hole / crack thing ? :)
    by Edano 6/23/2011 5:00:22 PM

  • @Edano we know a new fracture opened up on the site and it seems to run into #1 if that is the surface damage after tey have levelled it then surely the suppresion chamber etc must have taken a fair wallop
by Elaine Kirk 6/23/2011 5:02:44 PM

  • @Elaine Kirk thy. cool !
    by Edano 6/23/2011 5:03:14 PM

  • @Elaine Kirk do we know when it happened ?
    by Edano 6/23/2011 5:03:52 PM

  • @Edano Picture of the laser scan does not have beige spray goo on the side and no watering truck as in the later image of the hole filled in. Image 1 was posted 6-14 but no way to tell photo taken date. They don't say.
