  • I think I am going to get our lego bricks out of storage and build a box then send the plans to tepco telling them it is a super duper radioactive water storage device I will value it at millions and say I will sell a maintanance contract with it for a few more million ...... ah maybe a snag in my plans, I am not French or a previous nukem employee ....but then again I am in the UK that may sway it they bought the control rods and mox that others rejected
    by elainekirk 6/23/2011 7:31:13 AM

  • @elaine I imagine that "nukem" has the same connotation in the UK as in the US, it means "attack them with nuclear weapons." Coincidence?
    by bo 6/23/2011 7:33:07 AM

  • @bo www.thisislondon.co.uk UK Government will push ahead with plans for new nuclear power plants

    by elainekirk 6/23/2011 7:41:01 AM

  • @bo @elaine - they are doing it so that they can perform a u-turn later and call it a new policy...
    by hudebnik 6/23/2011 7:41:39 AM

  • An FB friend from Slovenia just posted a SimplyInfo link, so apparently he can access it.
    by bo 6/23/2011 8:04:04 AM

  • Re. the UK nuclear stuff we were discussing a little while ago to be fair to Weightman his initial report (produced a couple of weeks after the Fuku saga started) was to assess if there were any immediate implications for the UK nuclear industry, and his initial assessment was - as UK has very low eq/tsunami risk and had no BWRs then immediately no.
    by hudebnik 6/23/2011 8:05:00 AM

  • His full report is due in the autumn and will be published in full. As he has been the IAEA investigating team leader it should make interesting reading. He (W) is statutorily independent and a part of the Health and Safety Executive, the prosecuting authority for UK health & safety, so not part of the indusrty ministry etc.
    by hudebnik 6/23/2011 8:08:12 AM

  • @hudebnik isn't this why government should ensure that they are fully informed before deciding anything? including informing themselves re public opinion ? we don't want 'telling' we want 'information'.
    by elainekirk 6/23/2011 8:09:11 AM

  • @elaine - well they want it both ways of course, having invested lamentably little in significant renewables like wave or tidal power, both of which would suit the UK well.
    by hudebnik 6/23/2011 8:10:50 AM

  • mornin girls we have rising temperatures in 1 and 3. maybe they should put more water in there again. www.houseoffoust.com

    by Edano 6/23/2011 8:16:47 AM

  • good day all
    the coffee is having effect
@hudebnik about Nukem... they realised there was some sort of pr problem in the USA so they fiddled some with typography (NuKEM, NuKem)

    www.sourcewatch.org

But Nukem originally was a respectable german name, and together with some ...kem brothers and sisters it was partly owned by the not so respectible firm Degussa.

    www.americanhealthstudies.org
    by nls 6/23/2011 8:17:04 AM

  • @edano - it would be ironic if the stable readings turned out to be faulty and the wild ones were accurate
    by hudebnik 6/23/2011 8:17:40 AM

  • @all forwarding from houseoffoust to www.houseoffoust.com works but no direct access to simplyinfo.org from Germany, neither on PC nor phone
    by andrea 6/23/2011 8:19:19 AM

  • @Edano I must be a girl I ain't ever seen a bloke on a broomstick
    by elainekirk 6/23/2011 8:19:21 AM

  • @Edano they must be relying on their back up plan to pray for rain, or else their other back up plan, pray for no rain.
    by bo 6/23/2011 8:20:06 AM

  • We seriously need @lillymunster to awaken early
