  • @Ian yes. I have some photos out of a BWR manual on my web pages and they match that.
    by lillymunster 7/1/2011 1:47:29 AM

  • And it seems like you can just make out the square-edged rim of the fuel rack it would be in. If so, this rack is about 3 feet from the top of the SFP (and not just the top of the water but the top of the concrete edge of the pool). But in SFP4 the racks are like 30ft or more below the top of the pool as they should be. So this apparent BWR assembly is either seriously dislocated or SF3 has a very shallow design, which goes against how a SFP should be designed with about 30 feet of water above the racks. So then I'm back on the BWR-assembly would be seriously dislocated.

  • @Ian 3 should be deep just like 4. There isn't any major design deviations that I am aware of. 3 and 4 are identical model revisions.

  • @lillymunster I have no doubt we saw a news squelch in this country as in the UK, only the relationship was close enough they didn't have to commute to consult. We know GE designed and built Fukushima Daiichi and three of its reactors, and that even after they sold NBC to Comcast, they retain 49% ownership, but here's the recent CBS/Westinghouse story:
1995: Westinghouse bought CBS; began selling off other businesses.
1996: Westinghouse purchased Infinity Broadcasting; sells its defense electronics business.
1997: Westinghouse changed its name to CBS Corporation; sold its non-nuclear power generation unit to Siemens AG, which operated it in the US under the name Siemens Westinghouse Power Generation until 2005.
1998: CBS Corporation created a new subsidiary company called Westinghouse Electric Corporation to manage the Westinghouse trademarks.
1999: CBS Corporation sold its nuclear business to British Nuclear Fuels Limited.
2000: CBS Corporation was merged into Viacom

  • Another worker exposed to high radiation
Tests have revealed that another worker at the troubled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant has been exposed to radiation doses exceeding 100 millisieverts. Before the accident in March, 100 millisieverts was the maximum radiation exposure permitted in an emergency situation.

Tokyo Electric Power Company, the operator of the plant, submitted a report to the heath ministry on Thursday. The utility checked the radiation exposure of about half of the 4,300 people who started working at the plant in April.

TEPCO says none of the workers has been exposed to doses exceeding the legal limit of 250 millisieverts set by the government for emergency situations.

But one worker was exposed to 111 millisieverts, while the readings for 9 other people were between 50 and 100 millisieverts.

The health ministry instructed the utility to promptly carry out tests on the remaining half of the workers and report back by July 13th. www3.nhk.or.jp

  • @all I don't know if this is relevant but as I was looking for an update on the San Diego RadNet readings I happened to look at the Albuquerque, NM readings and noticed a sizable uptick in gamma and beta readings over the last 2 days. Perhaps the Fuku contaminatd trees and brush burning are producing the uptick but it's definitely worth keeping track of. www.epa.gov
