  • I agree. I have found it ridiculous from the start. The fact that they have not been welcomed in means that it is obvious to TEPCO and the CoJ as well that they are more of a liability than a help.

  • Surely they would not. And their claims in the press make it seem like if they just went in there, they would fix it all right up. It's just like when they were bullshiting about how if they could just plug the building back in, it would all just start right up! It is just crazy that they have gotten this much press.

  • JAPAN | Radiation concern prompts review of school routes

    JAPAN | NHK | 23 August 2011

Fukushima City says it will ask 80 percent of the city’s elementary and junior high schools to review students’ commuting routes due to higher than benchmark radiation levels.

The city is located about 60 kilometers from the stricken Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. In July, all its 72 elementary and junior high schools measured radiation levels 50 centimeters above the surface of roads used daily by their students.

City authorities say 59 of the schools, or 80 percent, detected one microsievert of radiation per hour or higher. 9 school routes measured 3 microsieverts per hour or more, with the highest reading topping 8 microsieverts.

One microsievert is the benchmark the government uses to determine whether top soil at school playgrounds should be removed with state subsidies.

  • @es It is such bad management if they allowed parties without financial/political interests to have oversight some of these problems would be ironed out in the planning stages

    by elainekirk 8/24/2011 12:23:49 AM

  • @Edano , not really. My first I remember was in Frankfurt. My potted plant fell of the window sill. I never felt two on the same day. So today is a first in this sense. It has been quite mild here with rattling and small things rolling of shelves. There does not seem to be visible damage in C'ville, but Culpeper County, which is a one our drive East of here toward Washington D.C., had to declare a state of emergency.
