  • "The AP reports the plant is being run off of four emergency diesel generators, which are supplying power for critical safety equipment." clock is ticking.

    by momof3 8/23/2011 7:10:08 PM

  • @lillymunster can you imagine? Can all of you imagine? If all ten plants had to go on backup generators, which failed like the fukushima ones?
There are reports of structural cracks and damage as far north as DC; North Anna is closer. How can they say no damage already, how can we trust that they've thoroughly checked? Dear god.
    by Panserbjorne9 8/23/2011 7:11:08 PM

  • @momof3 ah but tepco build to much higher standards than the pentagon thats why tepcos pipes withstand mach9's whilst the pentagon crumbles under a 5 someone should tell politico's to hire tepco to oversee the rebuild

    by RadioGuy 8/23/2011 7:17:01 PM

  • One way or another right at the line.
    by RadioGuy 8/23/2011 7:17:21 PM

  • @lily, wouldn't that be a 5.9 in its immediate vicinity? Like right under it (I know its hangish close), but lets say it was 70 km., away, it should be able to withstand much higher, correct?

  • Another dumb question. I should know this from hanging out here (hanging my head in shame). So if they declare an "unusual event" that means they will all scram? And if the scram is "successful" then they are officially offline?
    by momof3 8/23/2011 7:33:02 PM

  • By "all scram" I mean the 10 that declared an unusual event.

  • I experienced internet overload :(
    by MaryW 8/23/2011 7:35:16 PM

  • @momof3 Details are thin. As we know from Fuku, once the controls are in, they're still susceptible to power and cooling outages.
    by RadioGuy 8/23/2011 7:35:38 PM

  • @momof3 we don't know. Unusual event can be lots of things. So far we don't know if the others scrammed or not. They each have a seismic trigger system that if it shakes enough shuts down the plant. No word yet
