@Edano Audi Tek posted an article - NISA says TEPCO didn't do any of the actual needed upgrades to the reactors to be seismic safe.

@Edano Most of the ones today have been trying to be peaceful. I don't know if it is one group acting out or if the frustration is different various places.

@Liz disease would be difficult to transmit that far that fast from Russia to Alaska unless the areas were extremely close. Someone needs to start testing those animals for radiation.

Cause of Dounreay radioactive leak found - but it may happen again
www.newsnetscotland.comThe cause of the radioactive leak that hit the former nuclear plant in Dounreay has been traced to a small hole in a pipe. An investigation had been launched after radioactive fluid was discovered leaking inside the treatment facility at the plant.
However, despite plugging the small hole in a pipe that runs from the plant’s fast breeder reactor, the site’s operators - Dounreay Site Restoration Limited – have refused to rule out further leaks.
The ageing nuclear power plant is currently undergoing a decommissioning process at a cost of £2.6 billion.

@Ian yup Ian people have mutated and are now sheeple very sad - but hope is in all the marchers out there
by elainekirk 10/15/2011 8:38:21 PM

@Ian Cold war has everything to do with it. People younger than I am are oblivious to nuclear power or nuclear warfare. Being told all the time growing up that any day we are all going to get nuked into oblivion tends to stick in your mind. Even those friends of mine that are not super interested in what is going on in Japan seem to be retaining what I am telling them. Friends that live closer to Omaha are now fully aware of Ft. Calhoun and very concerned about it. People seem to be remembering things I have told them as I hear them repeat it here and there. But the larger mindset knows little about nuclear. I think that was on purpose the industry sort of went into hiding thinking they were going to come out with this new generation of reactor designs and pull one over on the public.
by lillymunster 10/15/2011 8:56:13 PM

@elainekirk People stop becoming sheeple very quickly when they lose their home, get bankrupted by medical bills, or can't find a job for years at a time. Until it actually happens to them, many are content to be in their own bubble.

@Edano edano to the rescue
by elainekirk 10/15/2011 9:55:19 PM

@lillymunster if i understand the article correctly, ines (nisa?) stopped the china syndrome calculations, when tepco said that the fuel wasn't badly damaged. but they did not continue (or did they?) after tepco (and the "agency"?) admitted the meltdown. once again, a very confusing article. i can't make any sense of it.

But the report noted that a lack of available disposal sites for radioactive waste will "unduly limit and hamper successful remediation activities, thus potentially jeopardizing public health and safety." The IAEA mission urged Japan to set more realistic goals and adopt decontamination methods that are easier to implement, such as burying contaminated top soil underground rather than removing it altogether.
