  • @Peter is it like an exoskeleton?
    by lillymunster 11/7/2011 3:21:20 AM

  • @lillymunster , yup. This was shown on their live newscast. Helps you schlepp yourself around in a 60 kilo lead suit effortless. Medieval knights would have been enthralled by the prospect.
    by Peter 11/7/2011 3:29:57 AM

  • And it's not science fiction. Here's one of the prototypes, built by US based Raytheon: www.youtube.com

There are several such projects from different companies around the world. Just YouTube exoskeleton.
by Pedro Jesus 11/7/2011 3:34:27 AM

  • The US army has been playing with those for years.
    by lillymunster 11/7/2011 3:40:41 AM

  • Seeing more and more tweets about increasing cases of leukemia and a type of pneumonia in Japan. Lots of it ppl have close relation/friend with it also comments from health workers that they are seeing a massive increase in cases. Hard to tell if this is fear or a real outbreak but the information being passed on seems more concrete than just "i heard this friend of a friend said" type stuff.
    by lillymunster 11/7/2011 3:44:59 AM

  • Actually very snazzy. The exoskeleton uses electrical nerve cell potential recordings enabling smoother movements.
    by Peter 11/7/2011 3:47:43 AM

  • @Peter Maybe all of Japan's human centric robot technology will come in handy after all.
    by lillymunster 11/7/2011 4:01:57 AM

  • I made a screenshot. It is not very good. But the 'suit' actually is a exoskeleton, consisting of the white contraptions attached to the legs of the fellow in dark clothes. i1214.photobucket.com

  • @lillymunster Good night, sleep well. By the way, it was Raytheon who developed (and has been developing) those toys for the US Military.
by Pedro Jesus 11/7/2011 4:18:06 AM

  • @Pedro Jesus I'll check on you tube, thanks.
    by Peter 11/7/2011 4:20:58 AM

  • @Peter Raytheon is one of the biggest contractors for the US Military. Their contribution spans across most scientific disciplines. Avionics, spy satellites, robotics, bionics, you name it. Check out their website to get an idea. Most of their current projects are either top secret or above top secret. We can only start to imagine what they are covertly researching at the moment. www.raytheon.com

  • Robot suits tested for Fukushima nuclear plant

A high-tech body-brace machine called a "robot suit" may be used to help workers at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant move around more easily while wearing heavy protective gear.

A venture in Ibaraki Prefecture, eastern Japan, originally developed the assistive device with University of Tsukuba researchers for people with disabilities and the elderly.

The device has sensors that move the brace based on nerve signals from the human brain.

The venture has now reinforced the robot suit's materials to strengthen its lifting power so that it can be used at the Fukushima nuclear plant.

Those entering the plant have to wear protective gear against radiation that weighs some 15 kilograms.

The venture says the device can help to assist the movement of up to 60 kilograms.

Last Tuesday, the venture team conducted tests to see how well the device can assist workers who are removing rubble and conducting repairs.

University of Tsukuba Professor Yoshiyuki Sankai says the robot suits will enable workers to do many more types of work and stay longer inside the reactor buildings. He says it may be possible to put the nuclear plant under control earlier if the device is used.

  • sorry i know there are some robo fans among us, but this is just another piece of nonsense. remember the flying robot still lying on #2 roof and no chance to rescue it.
    by Edano 11/7/2011 10:26:25 AM

  • @Edano I don't understand the fixation with making them look human

  • @elainekirk i like the exosceletons they use in alien 2 and matrix :)
    by Edano 11/7/2011 10:31:15 AM

  • I worry there is a blurring of the lines and whilst we make robots in our own image there s also a tendancy to see humans as robots. When we had a labour government you would often find children referred to as future human capital in their docs and many argued with me that there is nothing wrong with that because when planning and policy making it is a literal term but my thought is that why are they only planning economies why has wellbeing failed to feature in planning
    by elainekirk 11/7/2011 10:32:15 AM

  • The Japanese human looking robot thing was supposedly to make them more "friendly" and many were created with the idea of them being human assistants.

I do think Elaine's comment has a very good point. Too much happens at the corporate and government level that ignores people as individuals and groups them as a commodity.

This morning Israel's govt websites including military were down and their internet was mostly non=functional.

  • @Puc,, hi .. I ran on to this article this morning on enformable so wondering
    by dean 11/7/2011 2:04:27 PM

  • Unit 2
11/3 12:40 In order to improve reliability of nitrogen injection, additional flow gauge is started to install at the Unit 2 nitrogen injection line.

Around 14:00 The work was finished. Although nitrogen injection was stopped for approx. 10 minutes during the work, there were no significant changes in the parameters

11/3 16:50 Since some increase at the hydrogen density (hydrogen density of 2.9% [As of 16:30 on 11/3]) in the exhaust gas from PCV was observed from the last time of nitrogen injection amount change (hydrogen density of 2.7% [As of 18:10 on 10/30]), nitrogen injection amount was changed from 21m3/h to 26m3/h.
    by dean 11/7/2011 2:06:31 PM

  • Hi Puc - still need to look at the videos. Will do so here in a few min. The fog rolling in, is different than a plant issue. Someone spotted a steam/smoke issue near 4 the other night
    by lillymunster 11/7/2011 2:06:45 PM

  • @Puc, when lilly and Edano and elaine get in we'll discuss this

  • @lilly .. good morning
    by dean 11/7/2011 2:07:11 PM

  • browser giving me a fit. On the video - it looks to come from the common pool unit 4 area and spreads. No fog at the base of unit 1 makes me think it isn't fog rolling in
