  • Shows a school-teacher in Japan unpacking the dosimeters that arrived, and saying because they only record doses measured and have no display to show the levels or sound an alarm if the levels get too high, it makes the students guinea pigs. I suspect the dosimeters with hidden measures are lawsuit-proaction devices that authorities will always be able to falsely claim showed a lower level than what they'll claim to be "safe". The should refuse to wear them unless they have a clear and corroboratable data display at each moment and a ***ulative record that tabulates hourly history. That way they could always be calibrated / double checked by a personally-acquired Geiger counter.

  • Radioactive satellite may come crashing down : rt.com "After plummeting through the atmosphere, the craft will most likely fall into the ocean. The 10 tons of highly flammable and toxic fuel and a small quantity of radioactive material contained in the equipment on board the space mission will burn up along with most of the ship.
The chances of the spacecraft falling on a populated area and causing harm are minuscule. However, the risk cannot be ruled out, so averting such a scenario is what mission control are working on right now

  • Nuclear power plant Philippsburg II (Germany) unscheduled shutdown
    12.11.11 18:26
PHILIPPSBURG (Reuters) - The Baden-Württemberg Philippsburg nuclear power plant II has been taken of the grid on Saturday. During a routine tour a faulty seal on a non-nuclear part of the plant was discovered, said the energy group EnBW (EnBW share). To repair the seal the nuclear reactor must be shut down, said a spokesman. When Philippsburg 2 could provide electricity again is still unclear. The electricity supply in Baden-Württemberg was not at risk.

Environment minister Hosono joins decontamination work

Environment Minister Goshi Hosono (R front) scrapes off the topsoil of a residential garden in Date, Fukushima Prefecture, on Nov. 13, 2011, to decontaminate radioactive materials from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in the prefecture with around 60 volunteer workers. • @Hi all. Thanks for actually use your brians - I did not think "the experts" were doing that when they told the radiation (from maaaany countries..) may come from treatment of cancer patients in a British hospital - and there were some other good suggenstions too... This attitude makes me mad... I just found that map Elain when I read back on the links you provided here yesterday - TY. Liz TY for info about the german power plant. Q: Is it so that they have to shut down the reactor before repaireing this leak - how long time can this take, anyone who knows? They have to have known this all along - right? And how many are they...? Hmmm...

    by lillymunster 11/13/2011 2:01:14 PM

  • @Mona there is no leak to be repaired. the fuel is leaking, probably badly produced.
    by Edano 11/13/2011 2:01:30 PM

  • @lillymunster no. (morning :) )
    by Edano 11/13/2011 2:02:14 PM

  • @BRIANS I meant... Haven't seen any news papers writing about the leak. Another Q: journalists visiting Fukushima telling about levels of 300 microsiverts per hour - any who have comments to that?

  • @Difficult... BRAINS - I don't use mine today obiously. ;) Edano - can you explain some more?

  • @Edano You speak german right?Bei einem routinemäßigen Rundgang sei eine defekte Dichtung an einem nicht-nuklearen Teil der Anlage entdeckt worden, teilte der Energiekonzern EnBW (EnBW Aktie) mit. • @Mona do you have a source ? i haven't checked news yet.
    by Edano 11/13/2011 2:07:08 PM

  • @Mona The level at fuku was taken inside the press buss. One of the workers tweeted last night worried that the media is giving too nice of a report about fuku conditions. They were kept in the bus and only let out to go into the protected command center and then taken back to Jvillage. He says there are still deadly high areas at the plant

  • @Lillymunster I understand. Norwegian news paper have nothing about radiation levels in the covering of the visit. This have: www.telegraph.co.uk

  • @Edano sorry. Here is the link: www.ariva.de

  • @Mona well, it is a non-nuclear leak. maybe the secondary cooling. i don't know how long it needs to repair it. obviously it is a safety procedure to drive the reactor down.
    by Edano 11/13/2011 2:16:12 PM

  • i thought you referrred to the other news from yesterday, that Grundremmingen was leaking noble gases.
    by Edano 11/13/2011 2:17:34 PM

  • @Mona The Telegraph story is the one from the NYTimes. They let a big bunch of reporters in there but I am seeing lots of duplication in English language media.
    by lillymunster 11/13/2011 2:19:52 PM

  • @Edano I don't understand what that means when they say "non-nuclear. Isn't this the plant that have the high radiation- the red dot- on the map 1.04 on this page? I haven't heard of Grundremmingen as you telling about. Is it Grundremmingen or the other plant that has the red dot and - I presume- is responsable for the radiation increases in Europe?
    by Mona 11/13/2011 2:20:55 PM

  • @Mona no ! increased levels of iodine-131 have been found. this must be more serious than a non-nuclear leak. iodine-131 leaks on a meltdown.
    by Edano 11/13/2011 2:23:22 PM

  • A random thought while looking through the Cryptome images of the plant from yesterday. TEPCO also put out images claiming 4's explosion originated from the air handling system due to the massive damage to that systems ductwork. One of the locations in the wall of 4 that faces 3 had significant damage at a lower level near the corner of the building. There is a sludge tank there that is also hooked to an air handling system. The tank contents can make hydrogen and that tank has to be vented. The vent in the diagrams either direct vented out the wall or was tied to the air handling system, it wasn't totally clear. But it did seem to be involved in the blast. If it was tied to the air handling system that would explain why that was one of the more damaged locations in the building.
    by lillymunster 11/13/2011 2:25:22 PM

  • @Edano Ok. TY for info. I see a purple dot on that map also - don't know what country that is - but can that be the source of the iodine increases?
    by Mona 11/13/2011 2:26:12 PM

  • @Mona the red dot - grundremmingen and philipsburg are in southern germany, the red spot is more center...
    by Edano 11/13/2011 2:27:28 PM

  • @Edano Do you believe the iodine may come from Fukushima?
    by Mona 11/13/2011 2:27:36 PM

  • @Edano Ok. They could have done the maps easier to read I think... ;)
