this is so darn similar to chernobyl.... but maybe it's nothing.
by Edano 11/13/2011 1:26:22 AM

those iaea links I put up earlier that iaea had used in last 7 days had ukraine in them I dunnno why they wouldnt open in mine but others opened them
by elainekirk 11/13/2011 1:28:07 AM

maybe they vented the iodine out in the last days ?
by Edano 11/13/2011 1:29:14 AM

what isotopes were detected in sweden when chernobyl broke?
by lillymunster 11/13/2011 1:31:27 AM

@lillymunster in Forsmark they noticed the radiation.
by Edano 11/13/2011 1:32:36 AM

@Edano in what way and what was in it?
by lillymunster 11/13/2011 1:33:06 AM

@Ian no i-131 on that :-(
by lillymunster 11/13/2011 1:34:28 AM

@lillymunster
en.wikipedia.org On April 28, 1986, unusually high levels of radiation were detected in workers' clothing at this plant, prompting concerns of a radiation leak.[1] No leak was found, however, and the radiation was subsequently determined to have originated from Chernobyl, where a reactor had exploded the previous day.[2] Chernobyl is approximately 1,100 km from this power plant.
Detection of rise of environmental radioactivity at Forsmark was crucial in leading Soviet authorities, originally attempting to cover up the disaster, to admit that a nuclear incident had taken place in Pripyat.

4 navigation warnings to pilots due to 'arial photography ' taking place Ukraine
pilotweb.nas.faa.govby elainekirk 11/13/2011 1:43:31 AM

@elainekirk Oh now I am worried.
by lillymunster 11/13/2011 1:46:58 AM

All sorts of aerial photography going on near and in Ukraine on 14th. Also 13th. Includes areas of Bulgaria, Ukraine, Serbia, Hungary.
by lillymunster 11/13/2011 1:49:55 AM

All those areas being photo'ed don't have robust radiation networks
by lillymunster 11/13/2011 1:52:56 AM

So do you imagine the aerial photography is to locate the source? Don't you imagine that those at the source know the story?
by bo 11/13/2011 1:53:47 AM

@bo i think it is just an excuse to prevent traffic in contaminated clouds.
by Edano 11/13/2011 1:56:26 AM

@Edano thanks.
by bo 11/13/2011 1:56:49 AM

they won't say: hey, don't fly there because there is radiation.
by Edano 11/13/2011 1:57:39 AM

This whole thing is just weird. If it is something minor and IAEA knows what it is, why give zero additional information?
The first thing they did at Fuku was fly over and take readings.
by lillymunster 11/13/2011 1:58:45 AM

@lillymunster aerial photography = take readings ?
by Edano 11/13/2011 1:59:43 AM

I know that the original design of the Chernobyl reactors were without containment, but I had heard that after the accident there was an effort to try to put containment structures in place. Does anyone know if this was actually done? Or are these reactors still uncontained?
by bo 11/13/2011 2:00:41 AM

@bo they are contained. VVER reactors.
by Edano 11/13/2011 2:01:21 AM

@bo I didn't see anything about that in anything I have found, only talk about the new cover for the exploded unit.
by lillymunster 11/13/2011 2:01:40 AM

de.wikipedia.org modern WWER reactors (siemens/russian)

WWER/VVER reactors:

read under decommissioning this says all units at Chernobyl are now shut down
en.wikipedia.orgby lillymunster 11/13/2011 2:04:51 AM

@Edano, again, thanks.
by bo 11/13/2011 2:04:57 AM

the containment system is equal to western nukes.
by Edano 11/13/2011 2:06:23 AM

water cooled, water moderated, control rods from above. similar to our PWR reactors.
by Edano 11/13/2011 2:08:38 AM

passive heat removal. cooling towers.
by Edano 11/13/2011 2:09:13 AM

@Edano thought I had found something but looks boring
by elainekirk 11/13/2011 2:17:06 AM

@Ian wouldnt they be more discreet? this is pretty full on monitoring
