Japan Earthquake | Page 2692

  • @lilly I am not sure since I have not been up there. I am planning a visit in early 2012. I've heard that people who left the prefecture and the Tohoku area are beginning to return because they are unable to find work elsewhere. Part of that may be the unwillingness to hire people from that area. When you loose your economic base and the support network of family and friends, you are far too dependent on your employer.
    by bo 11/22/2011 12:10:58 PM

  • @bo are you hearing anything about any sort of jobs programs, retraining, anything? If there are no jobs to be had people fall into a no mans land zone
    by lillymunster 11/22/2011 12:13:00 PM

  • @lilly I haven't, but I am not tuned into daily Japanese news. Most of what I hear from people working up there is that the economic devastation continues. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a jobs program, but it would likely be as robust as the ones the republicans support in congress.

I have not seen anything from the places I glean things.

  • @bo someone sent in an email that they found medicines in the US that were manufactured in Japan. Benadryl liquid childrens. He said he called Johnson & Johnson who gave him some vague PR statement about being a trusted US company for 100 years and never addressed the actual concern about medications being made in Japan. Makes me wonder what our import laws are here

  • Saga gov't was aware of Kyushu Electric manipulating public debate

    SAGA, Japan, Nov. 22, Kyodo

The Saga prefectural government indicated Tuesday that it was aware that Kyushu Electric Power Co. had encouraged its employees to speak in support of a planned plutonium-thermal power generation project at the local Genkai nuclear power plant during a public forum in 2005.

In a report submitted to the prefectural assembly, the local government said it was aware that Kyushu Electric had prepared arguments for the so-called pluthermal project, effectively admitting it had accepted the utility's attempt to manipulate the prefecture-sponsored forum.

The report denied that Saga Gov. Yasushi Furukawa was involved in the matter. english.kyodonews.jp

  • Worker tweets - read bottom to top
7 Continued: I've been doing budget cuts began working as an employee of such order the manufacturer Yappa expenses. I'm hard work from many people not accustomed to it. Toka gotta hurt ... I hope.

6 continued: That's after installing ancillary facilities are laundry Toka Toka solidification facility. 'm Working around a cousin of the head plate of the contents can not work there ... but bottom line. As another reason for the increase, the fewer workers a company or cooperative affiliates have started doing it TEPCO TEPCO employees and was doing the work so far by the manufacturer.

5 more: the work has now been decided not to do debris removal flow of System Operation No. 3, dismantled equipment, dismantled unloading fuel in the SFP front of Unit 4 System Operation, Maintenance Tank maintenance of water treatment systems installed pollution, one maintenance of irrigation system maintenance in the furnace of Unit-4, I just installed or impervious wall.

Four following: Unit 3 reactor building is to put a high dose Dashimashi building ... even still. I have every single 決Menakya to analyze the data in the containment gas management system.行Kenakya not work well in the reactor building or underground. This means that I do not think I should also lead to the workers.

Three more: and say What do not determined why the next step is understanding the situation in the pressure vessel Toka containment do how to work them in the main those measures for waterproofing and know where I leak polluted water in irrigation in the furnace I think that I'm not embody.

2 more: I finished up the second step the government says, then the work of one of the reasons I think I also decided not to work more specifically decided not to include specific planning stage yet.

One more: I was also cut workers in the National Assembly yesterday, yes, and how do I not where Japanese and Chinese companies, I do not not reduce overall workers. The reason I think fewer workers but simply not there was shrunk to the budget.

  • @lillymunster Those tepco videos are kinda shocking. Concrete walls with cracks, water streaming out. This can't be about storing water. If it's groundwater intrusion, I can't believe that this example is 'Normal' intrusion. Look at this: water flood in Unit 6 switchgear room 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6

  • From what your saying I am assuming what Elaine found outside (big rips in the ground) follows suit inside the buildings. There are so many places outside where the ground moved a bunch, dips, holes, thrust up spots. The whole place moved more than just the shaking.
    by lillymunster 11/22/2011 7:08:53 PM

  • @lillymunster It's a mess, quite literally. Iirc (shaky as to amt.) Gundersen said the whole plant grounds subsided 8 inches.
    by M.I.A. 11/22/2011 7:14:38 PM

  • @M.I.A. parts moved 17 inches. I have a crazy day. When I get a chance will grab stills from the videos as I go through them. We can add this to Elaine's findings to continue to paint the picture of this epic mess. TEPCO tries to give the media impression that things are normal there.

  • The U.S. in 2005 signed a civilian nuclear agreement with New Delhi, paving the way for U.S. companies to export nuclear material and equipment to India. But India's parliament last year passed an act that made those companies liable to pay compensation without monetary limit in the event of a nuclear accident. That has deterred U.S. firms from engaging with India. online.wsj.com Think they might be thinking of Bhopal?
