  • @stef It's pretty bad, and that may be an optimistic view.
by James Ward 3/27/2011 2:45:32 AM

  • It's kind of bluish today...

    by openmind via Pointscope01.jp 3/27/2011 2:45:41 AM

  • They have not even commented on it.
by Sinthia Domina 3/27/2011 2:45:48 AM

  • Kyodo is eluding #2 is breached. It is like nobody wants to be the first to say it with certainty.
    by Nancy 3/27/2011 2:46:27 AM

  • @Nancy Probably in case they are wrong, they will lose a lot of credibility.
    by borrrden 3/27/2011 2:46:56 AM

  • Does anyone know a non-fluff story about whats happening with the the US military- not to be selfish but my boyfriend is a sailor out there in this sh*t show.
    by stef 3/27/2011 2:47:21 AM

  • @Openmind - that would be the leaking smurfium 139. ;-)
    by Nancy 3/27/2011 2:47:29 AM

  • Where is your boyfriend stationed?
    by NiteSpawn 3/27/2011 2:47:49 AM

  • Anything new on 1, last I heard was 24 hours back, that out had a very radioactive pool too.
    by Markfm 3/27/2011 2:48:05 AM

  • That Independent article is GREAT. First rate journalism.
    by radioguy 3/27/2011 2:48:09 AM

  • Good article sky... I love the comment followed "Why is plutonium not mentioned?"
    by stef 3/27/2011 2:48:13 AM

  • Nite Spawn- he is stationed in yokosuka, but obviously not in port- he is on the USS McCampbell Destroyer.
    by stef 3/27/2011 2:48:51 AM

  • NHK said #1 has highly radioactive water in the basement and no more word.http://www3.nhk.or.jp/daily/english/27_06.html
    by Nancy 3/27/2011 2:48:53 AM

  • So they are pumping the irradiated water that is 10,000 time the limit into a container right beside it, the condenser vessel, through the manhole access they said in conference on NHK a little while ago, seems like the radiation will still be extremely high.
by Sinthia Domina 3/27/2011 2:49:04 AM

  • and to be a totally proud navy girlfriend- I'm ridiculously proud of him.
    by stef 3/27/2011 2:49:09 AM

  • Would you folks agree that basically the same thing is wrong with No. 1, 2 and 3. All of them.
    by Sky 3/27/2011 2:49:29 AM

  • I believe 3 is damaged more- but yes. They are all failing.
    by stef 3/27/2011 2:49:54 AM

  • @ sky - maybe not totally. I think they are all failing but unique messes.
    by Nancy 3/27/2011 2:50:15 AM

  • did anyone get back to george on moderating?
    by stef 3/27/2011 2:50:31 AM

  • Seems like it to me Sky, they also said in that conference that is was slow going because they only had one pump.
by Sinthia Domina 3/27/2011 2:50:31 AM

  • The last I saw they were listing 50% core damage in all three. I haven't seen numbers recently.
    by radioguy 3/27/2011 2:50:39 AM

  • nite spawn....are you currently in the military?
    by stef 3/27/2011 2:51:18 AM

  • Coherent updates with a standard format (like a spreadsheet) from the authorities would be nice. It would make reading changes easier
    by Nancy 3/27/2011 2:51:27 AM

  • There are no ships in port Yokosuka at this time. All that were here went up north to help with relief efforts, vice the GW.
    by NiteSpawn 3/27/2011 2:51:27 AM

  • Hello Albert.
    by JMV 3/27/2011 2:51:42 AM

  • @Nancy Which authorities are you referring to?
    by borrrden 3/27/2011 2:52:04 AM

  • All have core damage, low water levels where the core should be submerged but can't be kept submerged, and leakage of highly radioactive water into the basement through some sort of "loosening" although nobody is quite willing to declare there is an actual breach of the reactor pressure vessel.
    by Sky 3/27/2011 2:52:05 AM

  • @Sky Yes...all three. The #4 reactor was empty, but had spent fuel in the spent fuel pool. Haven't heard much about #5 and #6 lately.
by James Ward 3/27/2011 2:52:06 AM

  • Hello, JMV. Anything on your mind? Thanks.
    by alblee 3/27/2011 2:52:41 AM

  • well that I knew...actually the McCampbell had just left port to do something different a few hours before the earthquake and tsunami. So they werent really even around until they went immediately to respond.
    by stef 3/27/2011 2:52:44 AM

  • @James Ward I think you meant to say nonspent fuel in the spent fuel pool :). All of the spent fuel pools have spent fuel in them.
    by borrrden 3/27/2011 2:52:53 AM

  • I work for the Navy, not active duty.
    by NiteSpawn 3/27/2011 2:52:54 AM

  • Are you a contractor?
    by stef 3/27/2011 2:53:15 AM

  • The similarities are eerie, no? The hydrogen explosions caused by hot(temperature) zirconium claddings being exposed to air, early on in the station-black-out scenario?
    by Sky 3/27/2011 2:53:21 AM

  • Yeah a lot on my mind but just wanted to say hello.
    by JMV 3/27/2011 2:53:33 AM

  • Yes
    by NiteSpawn 3/27/2011 2:53:49 AM

  • Im really bummed- I was going to see him in September and then head over to Hong Kong for work right after. That's been scrapped. My boss doesnt think Japan will even be livable- though he is very chinese...
    by stef 3/27/2011 2:54:07 AM

  • Thanks for following, @JMV. I'm at GMT+8.
    by alblee 3/27/2011 2:54:35 AM

  • Pool water at No.2 reactor is rapidly boiling. (See time code 3:52 of Veen Oui's 8:56p.m. post from NHK.)
    by Reed 3/27/2011 2:54:54 AM

  • @borrden - anybody, Tepco, IAEA, etc. it is hard to track things when they are frequently different sets of statistics for the same issue dumped into a story somewhere. Probably too nerdy for consumer media.
    by Nancy 3/27/2011 2:54:59 AM

  • I just noticed this at the bottom of the JAIF report for the 35th: The Main Gate: 259.0μSv/h at 11:00, Mar. 25
    by radioguy 3/27/2011 2:55:19 AM

  • If you dont mind me asking...are there many people who did not take the voluntary leave? Did they require you to have NEO pack ready just incase? A girlfriend of mine who is out there with her husband left because she said it was BASICALLY (not for sure) the smartest thing to do. They were being urged apparently. So her and her two kids are back in the states.
    by stef 3/27/2011 2:55:45 AM

  • @albee - retired reporter?
    by JMV 3/27/2011 2:55:46 AM

  • 25th... has anyone noticed higher before?
