@Jim, do you think that would stop fission in the reactors and spent pools? And how would entombment from above keep isotopes from getting into the groundwater and leaching into the ocean?
by Alaskan 3/27/2011 3:19:25 AM
@Rucco. Thank you, but I think that live Reuters blog that stopped yesterday said Reuters was setting up a facebook page for discussion. That one says its not part of Reuters. Maybe they didn't do it.
by ricky 3/27/2011 3:19:34 AM
@ricky go to facebook. type in Reuters. go under discussions. that is what they set up.
by Meretisa 3/27/2011 3:20:07 AM
@NiteSpawn It was obvious to me that a few folks in this forum hadn't read that particular Facebook page. Maybe you should have let them know instead of me.
by James Ward 3/27/2011 3:20:15 AM
Done for the night in this forum. Later.
by James Ward 3/27/2011 3:20:47 AM
I did let them know. That's the second time I've posted that link.
by NiteSpawn 3/27/2011 3:21:04 AM
Just wanted to thank everyone for setting this up. If you need $ let me know as I offered earlier
by snickums 3/27/2011 3:21:15 AM
Kyodo newsflash reporting 1000 millisv/hr found in water in reactor number 2
@Meretisa;@snickums and all, I'd be also willing to donate in order to keep this going if necessary
by Rucco 3/27/2011 3:23:15 AM
Just talked to my boyfriend's sister, she has been in the nuclear industry as a senior technician for almost 20 years, she says 300 nuke workers have been offered positions to go to Japan from US, have had their radiation limits raised. I am trying to get her on her to give more info. She says that within the industry everyone knows authorities are lying about the seriousness of the situation.
by Sinthia Domina 3/27/2011 3:23:50 AM
@Rucco George has turned us down so far.
by Jim Carver 3/27/2011 3:24:11 AM
I believe George Gibb set up this site and has gone to bed until 8 AM EDT tomorrow -- that UTC -4, I think. He said it only cost him ~USD$25 and did not seem eager to accept donations.
by Alaskan 3/27/2011 3:24:30 AM
@Jim Carver, oh ok didn't know. thanks for the heads up
by Rucco 3/27/2011 3:24:56 AM
@Meretisia. I did do that but I don't see anything for discussion. Here is the link for Reuters facebook page. www.facebook.com!/pages/Reuters/112985725382493?sk=info
by ricky 3/27/2011 3:25:20 AM
Why use temp workers
by Angeleyes 3/27/2011 3:25:21 AM
@Sinthia Domina I think everyone knows but the public that there's at least one core breach.
by Jim Carver 3/27/2011 3:25:57 AM
@angeleyes. Temp workers from Japan or the US ones Sinthia mentioned?
by Nancy 3/27/2011 3:26:37 AM
@Jim Carver- there's us. we know.
by Meretisa 3/27/2011 3:27:08 AM
@Sinthia, does she have any more good info that she can give out without violating anything?
by Nancy 3/27/2011 3:27:09 AM
@Angeleyes They're cheap and disposable. It's disgusting.
by Jim Carver 3/27/2011 3:27:30 AM
@Angeleyes In Japan company's use contracted workers for various task that are on yearly contracts which are renewed on every April 1st. probably the maintenance works fall into this category.
by NiteSpawn 3/27/2011 3:27:34 AM
From IAEA: "For two of the three workers, significant skin contamination over their legs was confirmed. The Japanese authorities have stated that during medical examinations carried out at the National Institute of Radiological Sciences in the Chiba Prefecture, the level of local exposure to the workers’ legs was estimated to be between 2 and 6 sieverts.
While the patients did not require medical treatment, doctors decided to keep them in hospital and monitor their progress over coming days"
by Natalie 3/27/2011 3:28:02 AM
I think she does, i gave her the link to this forum she might come and answer questions later
by Sinthia Domina 3/27/2011 3:28:06 AM
@anyone else see the irony of April 1st renewal? :P
by Meretisa 3/27/2011 3:28:07 AM
@Sinthia- good. it would be good to get some better info
by Meretisa 3/27/2011 3:28:45 AM
For reactor #2, it seems the only two routes for that level of contamination in water outside the containment is 1) cooling water levels went above open relief valves (because operators could not tell how much water was there before adding more, and/or did not know valves were open), or 2) there is a crack -- very serious.
by Alaskan 3/27/2011 3:29:01 AM
The Japan temp workers it sounded like the same situation that happens in the workplace in the US. Temp workers are cheaper on an as needed basis. They are also much easier to use, abuse and toss to the side. The contract workers always lose. I have seen this in white collar jobs. I am sure it is much worse in hazardous industrial work.
by Nancy 3/27/2011 3:29:03 AM
I can't believe that it seems like they are trying to cover up the extent of this!!
by Meretisa 3/27/2011 3:29:21 AM
@alaskan - there is a break in the piping in #2 leaking into a sewer system = direct route to the ocean. Plus admission that #2 reactor is breached and documented high radiation in #2.
by Nancy 3/27/2011 3:30:01 AM
@all correct me if I'm wrong but I thought Reactor No. 4 had no fuel rods in it because it was shut down for maintenance, so why would Kyodo report a NEWS ADVISORY: Water in No. 4 reactor less radioactive than in other reactors: agency (12:20). How is that News! english.kyodonews.jp
by Tenzing 3/27/2011 3:30:08 AM
She has told me a lot of things, but would be better coming from her. Wonder why they would want US nuke workers? Of course, it did take 600,000 people to clean up Chernobyl.....
by Sinthia Domina 3/27/2011 3:30:29 AM
Meretisa: I don't think its so much covering up, as they aren't sure whats going on and don't want to create mass panic.
by Natalie 3/27/2011 3:30:43 AM
@Natalie- it is just upsetting. I think you're right. Sorry.
by Meretisa 3/27/2011 3:31:12 AM
I believe there was mention that they were illegally storing unspent or fresh rods in #4.
by Sinthia Domina 3/27/2011 3:31:15 AM
@Tenzing Subtroversion
by Jim Carver 3/27/2011 3:31:27 AM
@Tenzing, they are grasping at straws to be optimistic. Just like the big smiles on the radiation dosage chart illustrations. Happy people being happily irradiated!
by Alaskan 3/27/2011 3:31:27 AM
You can only work people in a high stress dangerous environment for so long before they can't do it, get too much exposure or become unproductive because they are just exhausted.
by Nancy 3/27/2011 3:31:30 AM
++++ ATTENTION +++++ Look Closely at the TWO latest pictures from the TEPCO Webcam......noth are on this page here, i will repost Open each one in your Graphic programm and ZOOM in....let me know what you see ???
by VeenOui 3/27/2011 3:31:36 AM
@Tenzing. Maybe they mean the pool in the turbine bldg of reactor 4.
by Scilla 3/27/2011 3:31:55 AM
@sinthia - what? were the fresh rods in the reactor or sfp? I knew there were newish ones in the sfp that were a concern
by Nancy 3/27/2011 3:32:06 AM
NEWS ADVISORY:Radioactive iodine 134 extremely high in water at No 2 reactor. KYODO 12:26
