  • @borrrden You start with a Bq and exposure type. Then you plug it in to the coeffcieint table above (2.2, 2.3, etc.). From here you get a mortality or morbidity rate per second of exposure.

  • I now simplify all readings to low, medium and high. Dont see the point in getting too obsessed with the actual values, most of them are probably wrong. Irresspective of any smoke and mirrors from TEPCO the information goes through too many hands before it gets onto the news websites.

  • @Salvador Yes, that's no good. Because > 1000 mSv might be 10,000 mSv! Lots of numbers are greater than 1000. Even at 1000 mSv, each worker would get their annual dose in just 15 minutes.

  • @Salvador Don't know. THe previous high levels was in the basement of the turbine? of reactor 2. This is outside the building, so I'm guessing that people would be affected that got close to the building.

  • Hey, I haven't posted since the Reuters site ended but I thought I'd add this information from Yokosonews - at last Tepco conference it was reported that radioactive water was found inside a trench tunnel. He says between reactor 1~3 and I'm not sure what that means. The high level of >1,000 millisieverts was found yesterday at 3:45 and not reported until 5 pm today. Here is the link: twitter.com

  • At least it's not atmospheric radiation. The question how it could leak into that "trench" is a very important one, because the trench must have a higher level than the turbine buildings basement.

  • @Jojo I read no information about that yet but, according to Kyodo News, the trenches were exposed when they cleared some rubble. Very little information still. I'm also waiting for IAEA's daily report. I'm surprised it hasn't been published yet.
