On the plus side, there's a mutant variety of shark in the Bikini Atoll area that has an extra fin, and Japan is close to China where shark fin soup is still regarded as a delicacy. We are not talking about a fancy low-noise camera here! Chances are the camera can't focus or expose correctly in low light. That could be a star in the distance, reflected light, or just thermal noise in the sensor. @Joshua Diamond Ido not think it chernenko glow,, but maybe heat signature or some kind of lumiesence- you can see neon lights even on a cheap camera. and oddly it correlates with spike from unit 3 graphed on unicamp pin above (for temp. at least)by marie rich 3/28/2011 4:36:07 PM- One other possibility to consider on the webcam image is that the digital imageing chip has sustained some sort of damage and every remaining shot that's low light will show that.
