Kyodo news reports Workers exposed to 1000000 degree temperatures inside the reactor, bitten by at least 100 cobra snakes, and a full-scale nuclear blast equal to 1000 Hiroshima-size nuclear bombs. TEPCO says that this exposure will not be harmful to their health, however.

@Tenzig That pipe was connecting the reactors 3 and 4 to the steam venting pipes, which are the tower looking structures with scaffolding in the middle. It is visibly damaged and disconnected from reactor #4, so it would have to be coming from #3.

@fitter this is better (HD) footage of the same flight over the Fukushima Plant No. 1 in this video pause at 6.22 look at the big disconnected pipe then follow it left to the rust colored objects (?) that seem to be leaning (vertical) from the ground up to the (horizontal) broken pipe. @marie rich "correlates with spike from unit 3" -- if it was night time, and you saw a radiation spike in the monitor, wouldn't the first thing you might do be to shine a light around the building to see if there are additional steam emissions?

@Matsuoko They could not measure trench water surface radiation under reactor/turbine hall #3, because no access to rubble. #1 trench water radiation was very low level. #2 was the very high measurement

3 workers were decapitated when a steel beam fell from a height inside the reactor building. TEPCO reports that the workers were discharged from the hospital and the decapitation will not affect their health.

@Joshua Diamond I am not qualified enough to make this kind of assumption..Having sold and myself installed Surveillance equipment Camera's with night vision, I can only say that even with 480 res, it wasn't possible to capture that kind of distance without absolute grainy image and i had 24FPS "RT" AC Powered....so to me a battery powered device just doesn't seem plausable.
Either way, this doesn't make any difference as to the guessing what that glow is.

According to the latest TEPCO conference the trenches are fairly full:
Unit 1 trench contains 3000m3 of water - relatively low level radiation
Unit 2 trench contains 6200m3 of water - highly contaminated
Unit 3 trench contains 4200m3 of water - unknown level of radiation

@all you probably know already, but Tepco has added an appendix with mobile unit readings which are a better snapshot on the plants atmospheric readings. www.tepco.co.jp

@Jojo No IMMEDIATE hazard to human health. You forgot TEPCO's favorite buzzword. @All Pu238,239,240 being found now could have come from any one of the CV's or spent fuel pools. All are a product of fission, Ur or Pu. Notice Pu239 is highly fissionable, but I don't know what that means with regard to soil contamination.

@Bev I just saw a CNN reporter talk about the Pu, and he was basically saying that TEPCO didn't admit it was "their" plutonium. The CNN reporter was speculating on air that maybe this Pu was naturally occurring. Seriously, TEPCO needs to be smacked hard for this, this isn't a freakin' game.

@JoJo: Think about the dynamics in play here. GoJ is holding TEPCO totally responsible to relieve itself of any LIABILITY. Very 'unfriendly' fire between the two plus the PM is a newbee. Add in the cultural component - which is strange to all of us. Very difficult and tragic lesson for the Japanese people who place their faith in the govt.

Did anyone take a close look at the pixelization of that image? The edges tell me that it's artifact because it's smooth. If it were a 'glow,' the edges of the 'dot' would demonstrate scatter.

The problem is, the ocean is used by all of us. What happens when we find more sea water affected with Cesium, or even Plutonium? Ocean is vast, but it could pollute local Japanese fishing spots for centuries if the kelp gets irradiated.

Listening to katz on kyodnews, and he is translating TEPCO as saying that the plutonium samples were taken a week ago, and that when other countries have done nuclear testing that amounts of plutonium detected then were greater than what what just disclosed. So, no need for alarm.

@Karen Warren GoJ needs to freakin' nationalize this in the interest of public safety. They need to get expert opinions from around the world, TEPCO are a bunch of morons. Are they going to paen this off on TEPCO while Pu is found OUTSIDE the reactors? It's in the air, water, ...
